Stereo Thread - questions, queries, bragging,

I was thinking of the shifter too, thats why I like this one. The buttons are on the side so they are all accessible. I think res bought the same brand or close to it.

Sony is a Meh brand. Can still spend $100 less and get a reversing camera

Has anyone ever had one side of their sound system die. My whole driver side seems to only work some of the time, and it seems to come on and off as a whole side. I've made sure the balance and fade are set in the middle, replaced the adapter loom imediately behind the Headunit, the fronts are brand new speakers and it happens in the rear no matter what speaker is used, so i'm fairly sure the problem is located under the steering wheel or could be a fault with the headunit which is getting a bit old. Might try and test it with a different headunit and see if the problem is still there. Any other ideas?

Okay so maybe Sony is just a name, they have never been the same since Steve released the iPod over 10 years ago.

Personally I like this Kenwood with a fold out screen, but its expensive for my budget at $799.
Still it's still a single DIN unit and the screen it up higher when in use so easier for CC/CE Lancers which have their HU mounted low.
Just need to set your AC before opening the screen.

So just an update, looks like I'll be waiting to do the door speakers, need to see if I can score some grills off a GTi.
But I can score a Sub, Amp and wiring for $300 if I can install it, more later on my thread.

Apple has no niche in the audio world in terms of speakers and HU, what does that have to do with Sony? Sony was never the best. They are solid quality and reliable but not the best bang for your buck. Hence Meh Tier.

The iPod killed off the WalkMan and DiscMan, Sony has not been the same since.

Id try a different head unit, if it still happens id even go to the trouble of changing the wires over, making sure the wires isnt shorting out somewhere and elso changing the wires over is always good, because 10/13 year old wire sucks balls anyway

CH Lancer:
-JVC headunit (can't find model number right now)
-Vibe Slick 6" splits in front
-stock speakers in rear still, boo
-some 8" active sub from Autobarn -goes pretty well

Thinking of ripping out the gear from my other car and putting some of it into the Lancer, cause it never gets driven:

R33 Skyline
-Sony GTX-GT800D
-Polk Momo dB 6" splits (front)
-Alpine 6" splits (rear)
-Kenwood 4 channel amp running those
-Sony big-fark-off monoblock running
-Soundstream Reference sub in a custom 8mm fibreglass box.

Having said that, does anyone know of a good under-seat sub? Thinking of ditching the boot sub; will need boot-room in the next few years for prams...

So I'm looking at buying a double DIN DVD HU, don't know whether this will fit flush. I assume it will and blah blah blah but can anyone confirm this? I also have an ISO adapter thingo to go with it so hopefully it's plug n play. Thoughts? I was looking at some other but this had the best sound output at 4x65W. Audio is not my forte.

don't buy an ebay headunit, they are total garbage even though they claim to have every feature known to man in a unit worth only a few hundred. the 4x65 will be BS, you will be lucky to get more than 10wrms from it which is nothing. as mentioned you can find some nice brand name and not to mention AUS warranty units from retailers tht will be much more worth your time. we had some digital radio pioneer double dins with appradio and bluetooth etc for 489 with a free pioneer reverse camera. that is well worth it. I know you don't know much about the audio so take this one piece of advice even if you arent after an audiophile grade system, go to a store with people that know more than what the stickers say and you will get what you want and not get ripped off.
