Good price for exhaust?

What an eventful day!

Went to the place in Thomastown as I had an appointment with the guy. Turns out he misunderstood me and would only do a cat for $280! No muffler!
He made me out to be a liar, stating that I didn't mention anything about a cannon muffler (110% sure I did, no doubt). He handled himself rather unprofessionally and asked me to "go find somewhere that will do both for under $300". So I called up True Flow in Sunbury and he asked me to get there as soon as I could.

My baby with her rear in the air <3

So I got a 2" cat back system and a cannon muffler all for $280.
I should go back to that place in Thomastown and stick my invoice all up in his face :D

That's it! All done.
Cannon sounds amazing too. Deep and doesn't drone (much) on the freeway.
Pretty happy with it.

Haters gonna hate.

Good work dude, looks awesome!
Just shows that ringin around a bit pays off ;)

pretty cheap ...

the first guy was probably under the impression you wanted a new cat ....
the second place you only got from the cat back right ?
so you still have the stock cat .

maybe you misunderstood

I called up Person A. Asked for a 2" cat back and 4" cannon. He said he'd do it all on Thursday.
I went today, he said he didn't recall me asking about a cannon (which is weird, because both my mate and I called him up on different times, both asking for the same thing for my Lancer lol). He basically told me to f**k off and, as I said before, "find somewhere that will do a cannon and cat back system for under $300". He even said he doesn't do cannons! When he agreed to over the phone, so screw him.

Went to the guys at True Flow, he said he rarely does cannons but had a few there anyway. Did it all in about an hour, give or take.

I didn't misunderstand anything. I knew what I wanted and I know what I asked.

/rant & essay lol

Wheres the vids lol? And tint those windows!

Nice work on the cat, I also took a few pics when I got mine since i was too excited on how it would sound.

Did you end up going mild steel or stainless, press or mandrel bent?

guessing at that price, mild steel... but who knows, they might be really inexpensive!

I have the vid!!! But it was taking too long (40 mins) to upload to youtube and it's like 1 minute lol

The cannon is stainless, the cat is mild steel and mandrel bent I'm pretty sure, could be wrong...

Haha window tinting later :p
Next thing is a slight dump :D

don't be too cheap doing your window tint either... the more optically correct stuff, with lifetime warranty, can be around the $320 mark... I can attest to the clarity of the Bollé brand stuff... awesome.

Yeah deffs. I've seen some awkward tinting now and then, random bubbling etc

No short cuts ever!

usually those are people who try to install pre-cuts themselves.... mostly the bogan types who spend small dollars on crappy DIYs and mods... especially when their cars are full of Type R rubbish from SCA... ughh!

And no I don't have the stock cat on my Lancer.
Got the new one on.

pics ? what cat ? so you got a new cat + pipes + cannon for 280?

or did you get a new resonator / muffler and pipes and then a cannon tip

i dno they don't normally change the cat in a cat back exhaust do they =] ?

they do not sir, hence "cat back" change everything behind the cat. another one is an axle back exhaust which is replace everything from the rear axle back generally just a muffler swap.

Might jump in on this thread if that's cool.

If I can get pipes, cat, and sports muffler for $300 I'd get it done really soon, but is that actually the sort of price I'd be looking at?

I want sports exhaust for nice *non* droney sound but I want to improve efficiency/performance too. Would a cat-back mod achieve this? or would I have to change the cat too? How much further up can you go before it becomes a header-back mod? Coz I think I'd only want to spend around $300 at the moment plus servicing costs which could be another $100 or so.

not with cat no, 300 is generally for pipes and muffler installed
if u want quite, added performance and efficiency get a set of headers/ectractors first before u do the rest of the zorst

yeh thats what i thought ... ciz i think you need to look under your car again lol !

no one will give you a new cat and exhaust for that much ... not new installed ...

Alright. Someone mentioned that hens extractors are about $300. Are there others brands that are good too? I don't live in Sydney.

Also, I do want some extra sound but I want a good sound, not that droney annoying sound you hear in a lot of cars with the huge cannons.

extractors are less than 300 but will cost you about 300-320 all up after you get them fitted by a zorst shop
maybe get a catback while your there for an extra $350, and get 2" if you have a 4g15 and 2.25" if you have a 4g93, choose ur muffler well thats the main drone component

Alright I'll ring around and see what deals I can get. I need to get a service too so maybe they can do me a deal if all the work is done in one go. With the extractors, I've only heard of Hens being mentioned. Are there any other brands to look out for or should I just ask the shop to choose? I obviously don't want them to put something crap in if I can get something decent for same price. I'm pretty sure I saw 4g15 under the bonnet - it's a 1.8L CE.

so ur after 4g93 headers being a 1.8L ce

Xforce do some stainless headers, HENS does mild steel ones for cheap, RPW does many many different header designs... why not have a google there are heaps of them out there
