Yeah doesn't sound great, not that its should not be an issue here but it sounds the same as when I get pre-det. Maybe a bad batch of fuel?
I've had alot of different tapping from this motor recently.
Chunk of metal in the cyl.
Loose fly wheel
Exhaust leak @ the manifold
Wrong valve clearance
Pinging from low octane fuel (anything under 98)
Exhaust hanger on chassis

Yeah tapping is my worst nightmare
Fuel is good, done it on few differant batches of std unleaded, and 98 and E10
Checked for inlet leaks with carby clean and revs stay consistant= no leak
Valve clearance is now perfect after yesterday
Hope it's stupid like exhaust hanger
Please don't say flywheel, I hate removing fwd boxes. I can do a complete clutch change in the silvia b4 I can even get the box out on a maccas tray skid car (puts on flame suit) lol
Doubt metal in cyl as would be consistant and by now would have knocked the tip off the plug or got stuck in the exhaust valve.
Prick of a thing it is.
Just looked again b4 and it appears to be coming from the firewall side, was wrong bout being exhaust side.

I wasn't suggesting that would be problems you will have. They are the problems I've had myself.
I edited the post adding some more useful.. Hopefully.. Suggestions

Noise did get little louder over time, but now is consistant in volume.
I do all servicing and full major done 15000 ago, all belts and timing belt, plugs, leads, oil+filter, tranny, contact clean atm, carby clean tb, has had injector clean (machine not additive), timing checked, all other fluids flushed and refilled, air filter, fuel filter, water pump.
She has had the car since new and I been with her since car was at 113,000 and now at 215,000

Thinking may just burn to ground and claim insurance hahahaha.
I never had a car hold its secret quite like this thing, and I'm used to working on cars that have been modified to point of track only and they are tempremental buggers at the best of times.

Flogged out cat, loose brackets or heat shield etc. Just have a look under and hit the exhaust with your hand. It could be amplifying a normal noise into something you find troubling.

Edit: although without physically seeing the car it's difficult to pinpoint.

I had a similar noise after doing the cam belt on my 4g15, I left 1 bolt loose that holds the air con compressor and it vibrated loose till it contacted the pulley. Something to check maybe

Oh I know that sound i think its gearbox related. Mines making the same noise does it go away if she pushes the clutch in? If so its a bad throw out bearing or crank walk.

pretty sure he said its auto, but yeah switching out the gearbox is pretty cheap if you can isolate the noise to coming from there

Just watched your vid :/ doesn't sound good mate haha try a garden hose held to your ear and float it around the bay when cars running ?

Stupid car lol.
Mrs home tomorrow so ill throw it up on the stands and run a fine tooth comb over it.
I hope it's something simple as I just can't be assed with it lol.
Give me a manual box to rebuild and I'm happy as a pig in poo,
Ask me to find the mystery sound and I cry.

Bit of a long shot but when was the last time you checked the brakes? I had a ford that had clunky rattly brakes maybe a heat shield ? Or even something under the car amplifiying noise? Sometimes the worse it sounds the less of a serious problem it is haha sometimes!!

Would be worth putting car on stands safley!!! Handbrake an all that run car and if no noise its wind related , if noise still persists its something running gear related like trans. Have you tried putting car in neutrel when drivin?

That audio may be miss leading, but.
Sounds like detonation to me.

These engines are a bit of an annoyance to fault find as there is nothing to really alter to check cause and effect.
Does the engine have much blow by?

Okay but I was wondering is the sound only there when driving?

If it's there when parked then you can pretty much rule out the GB, brakes and other running gear as it's likely to be engine related.

I was going to suggest the same thing, but didnt want say.

Any issues when driving? sluggishness or anything?

Common guys I said detonation in the first post :) 98 you would think might remove that. It didn't work.
