DIY: Projector Retrofit

More heat.

I literally had to heat my headlight up to hotter then i could touch for a couple seconds.

Yep as Donki said "More heat"

Don't be too scared when you are pulling it apart but make sure it is hot enough. I found with the clips that if you just bend them away it should come apart with some force

they've been in a 180* and are damn hot, the top easily pried apart but the bottom won't budge at all

well I found that when I took mine apart it was easier to pull most of the top apart before the bottom

There's only 2 screws behind near the indicator as in the DIY, if you've got them out the only thing holding the lens on is the glue and them clips. I had to use a towel when pulling apart coz it was way too hot to touch. If you've heated them up as I said in the DIY you should be right. The clips can bend up and out of the way and the glue should JUST be soft enough. If you've waited too long to start prying it's probly not hot enough so yea as already said more heat lol. Start from the top corner (top of your first pic) and pull it off like that. It does take some force but once you get your fingers in there just puuuuuull

yeah i ruined my fingers for today and set the bbq on fire so decided to call it quits and just assemble the projectors. i'll have to wait till josh is free and use his oven to get them apart

the only difference between the 5.0 and the new 6.0 projectors is the bowls, i have both so i thought i'd show a comparison between them. tbh the 5.0's seem much better quality as the threads are nicer and smoother and everything fits exact. as i swapped over to the 6.0 bowls, the screws didnt quite line up perfectly and the thread on the back seemed almost too big to fit the nut and took me about 20 minutes to get to thread. hopefully what they lack in build quality, they make up for in clarity on the road.

6.0 on the left, 5.0 on the right

Terminator style ;)

On the headlight aligner at work its safe to say these HID's put out close to double the light output of the standard halogen globes.

Enough said.

Double? Probably a lot closer to triple or quadruple lol  Red painted Cutoff shield?

Also yay, thats 4 Victorian's with a DIY Retrofit (which is about 1/3 of all us active members lol)

I was being conservative ;)

Terminator because of the lack of lenses, it gives it the eerie melted off face look ;)

Trying to be un-biast and informative for future buyers I will try to explain the difference for those trying to decide whether it is worth it or not.

After taking the car for my first night drive since last night I think I have obtained enough information to comment. Keep in mind I am running 4,300K bulbs. If you wish to run a whiter/bluer Kelvin range then expect that to alter your visibility slightly. I found this light wasn't at all yellow but was perfect for your eyes.

Weather conditions were clear with slight fog at one point. The best way to describe the light output was think of the BRIGHTEST part of your halogen beam and foglights combined, now throw that absolutely everywhere in front of your car up to the cutoff.

Yeah, that good.

My girlfriend uttered these phrases during the drive:

"Holy s**t!" -when I turned them on.

"They're so bright!" - back road

" Wow " - multiple times during the trip... Or was that me?

Once home they firmly got the tick of approval from her (<this is a big deal and NEVER happens)

Another positive point is that because the light output doesn't change between low and high beam, just throws the light a little further you don't get that half a second of blindness after flicking from high down to low beams. This to Me is a very big plus.

Negatives (for argument sake): it is a pricey mod. Can you justify it?

If you want safety, if you want to truly see where you are going, if you want to outdo the brand new Audi's and beamers. If you want the ultimate light upgrade. I suggest you do it.

I could go on but I think it has been covered enough by others.

Just for reference, what are you running as parker globes to match the 4300k hid light? My blue vision tinted wedge globes just look yellow in comparison and I need some decent globes to match the light..

White T10 SMD globes are what i used to run, crisp white, but now i just run the angel rings as parkers for the time being

orange t10's. the orange light against the white light looks pretty good.
just like in the US they have the sidemarkers on which are their indicators at the front, and the newer bmw's have a couple of orange led's down the side of the headlight with headlights on, and a few other cars round the place have the orange sidemarkers

FYI: TRS just had a 'july 4th' sale where you could use the coupon JULY4TH and get 20% off nearly everything. I just saved 64 bucks 2 days ago which was after they said the coupon would work. It still might work now you'd have to see. If anyone was thinking about buying stuff from them now, check if the coupon code still works. The saving would compensate for the aussie dollar only buying 88 US cents when they convert it.

Suuuure is! It's gonna be hard tho. No where near as easy as the lancer. Cutting and gluing and wiring and not driving car for a while and heatguns coz oven too small and bumper removing will all be necessary. Not looking forward to it :|
