DIY: Projector Retrofit

Great thread. I would love to do this to improve the quality of my lights.
Is it possible to do the retro fit in the square shaped sedan headlights?

Sure is! I've only seen one person do this tho, but if they've done it, the projector must fit in there so you should be right.

What's the difference between the D2s and H1s ?
What makes the H1s easier? Is there a difference in performance?
Which would you choose given the choice?

Thanks.

the angel eyes for the coupe are terrible but i think the sedan ones like you linked are not too bad, similar to stock. if you want better vision at night then go the hid retrofit for sure. i'm unsure about your first question though, i just went h1 cause i know they fit

The sedan angel eyes are decent, and they look pretty good. I'd still go the retrofit tho, much much much better light output it's sooooo good.

(Not relevant but the coupe angel eyes is probably the biggest pos you can buy for your car lol. No offence to anyone with them, they definitely look good but unless you never drive at night, I'd never have them again, performance is terrible.
Went for a cruise by myself in the lancer the other night and it's just so much more enjoyable with the retrofit it's ridiculous. I just love nighttime driving with it.

Night and day isn't even an exaggeration. It is quite literally that big of a difference. I just can't stress enough how awesome doing a retrofit is lol..

Sweet. You've sold me on the retrofit as opposed to the Angel eyes. I do a lot of night driving on country roads.

Yep, D2S fit in CE sedan lights.
probably easier for the MH1's.

This is what I was asking about earlier, Can anyone shed some more light (haha) on this?

Well they are both made by the same company, so you'd expect them to be just as good.

Might pay for you to go and peruse their website http://www.theretrofitsource.com

You guys getting these for a couple normally choose the mini gatling shroud right? Maybe your better off choosing the full sized or E46 like shown on the Honda accord euro. They might look a bit better for size in the sedan headlight.

I went D2S as I read somewhere it was "good" for H4 retrofit.
However it was quite a sizable unit, and I'm told the newest revision of Mini H1's are 'better' in terms of cutoff etc and they appear physically smaller (hence easier to fit - maybe).

I think you'll find it hard to fit the D2S and a good looking shroud. I can confirm E55-R Shrouds do not fit sedan headlight.

However D2S compared to stock......massive difference

I am seriously considering this hid conversion after a combination of bad weather conditions, oncoming traffic and our standard headlights finally showed me how there are situations where you need this type of light output..

I am curious about what shrouds you can fit in our lenses. I really want to fill out as much of the lens that I can to keep it looking as factory as possible.
Suggestions?

go for it!
i'm not sure if any of us have tried anything other than the mini gatling gun shroud which fits well, i'd imagine most if not all of them will fit maybe with a little modification and if it doesn't they're not too expensive to replace anyway

Well for coupe headlights, the mini gatling gun shroud JUST fits with no modifications. It's actually pushing on the top and bottom of the reflector bowl as it sits in there. So anything bigger will probably not fit unless you do some cutting and modifying. Maybe them oval shaped shrouds would be fine if it's slim height wise coz there's obviously room widthwise. Not sure of any shroud dimensions.
It is very hard to make a projector look factory just coz of the shape of the headlight. Maybe you could make a custom shroud to cover up the whole reflector, similar to what TPG did with the sedan headlight but more "shroud-like?"

shrouds are designed to be trimmed so that you can get the fullest fitment, if you want you could try getting a full sized shroud like gatling 2.0 and then trim it all perfectly so you have no gaps between the reflector bowl and the shroud.

FYI, the dollar is dropping and will probably continue to drop much further, so if anyones planning on doing this, buy your shiz now coz it's only gonna get more expensive the longer you wait..
If i bought the same stuff I did now instead of earlier this year when I did, it'd cost me $27 more.

Had the ultimate test the other night - had a copper drive in front of me for about 3-5kms. Didnt do *poo*, even though my light cutoffs are perfectly horizontal to the road..

Success!

trying to rip them apart but can't get past this clip on the bottom, am i missing something? pretty sure all the screws are out and i can't see any in this area anyway. if i pull any harder i'll probably snap the lens
