DIY: E4-9 Short shift install

There's 2 grub screws, one behind the other. Did you get both out?
Don't ues a hammer you'll break it...

Yeah it on;y has the one in it cause Res removed the second one on installation :p :)

Hmm no idea why it wouldn't move then. There's only grub screws holding it on. They grub into a little indent on the shifter.
Are you just trying to move it up/down? Doubt it will feel much different anyway

Up, although I'm only doing it for aesthetic appeal cause I got some stalk showing with my other gear-knob. it was pretty far down and twisted I don't think it was on one of those indents... So yeah bit of brute force might be needed...

Ah yea. Just play with it and see what happens. Maybe they don't go in an indent I can't remember.. But brute force is the last resort. Really it shouldn't need any force.

trust me, you will not need brute force, these things are very very loose when undone, make sure u have both grubs out each adjustable part has 2 each

Plus one for man power! :D Took it all apart again and gave it a good hit and the weight came straight off. Anyways all fixed up now and looks way better. I think a new gear-boot is on the list sometime in the future.

Looks like this now :)

You haz cruise control? Lucky bastard!

Haha yeah, it's an aftermarket kit though I'm fairly certain. The previous owner did a lot of highway and interstate driving hence the high mileage for the age. It's handy but for sure :)

Anyone have an issue with the gear knob not fitting on the new shifter?
Ive had to tape it on so I can drive .
The new shifter is to small so it won't go on the thread it keeps turning.

Do you have the stock one or an aftermarket gear knob ??? Cause I know I had to change my adapter to a smaller size with my aftermarket one.

I haven't had a problem with any of my 3 shift knobs

But yes it is smaller thread

I think mine is stock, it's heavy as a rock, not sure what stock looks like.
I'm getting an aftermarket one on the weekend so hopefully a different one will fit.

just want to get opinions on whether this short shifter would be ok for daily use?
dont mind if its a bit tough just mostly worried that neutral will be a pain

nah its pretty mild for daily, i have daily driven with this shifter for ages now, its tighter but there is still a nice sized neutral

and after a few days driving u will find it 2nd nature

Yeah I'm the same as Resley. It feels amazing going from stock but now I just want it to go smaller :p

Okay soooo. Did a bit of work on the shifter today and i have some good news aaaand some bad news for those of you who are looking at making the UK evo short shifter shorter stem and throw distance by adjusting it to the shorter setting

Firstly some how this adjustment works as this is still a diy and i want people to actual learn how to and why this happens

So as your shifter should come, it will have the main middle ball joint, which just above it has 3 or 4 little indents, those indents mark the spot for where the middle ball joint can be adjusted up to and locked into with the grub screws

So u move it up there, now onto how this makes the shift shorter. You have (just by moving that ball joint aka "pivot point") shortened the top length and lengthened the bottom ends distance, by doing this you have changed the pivot ratio

The pivot ratio is basically "if i move the top end how much will the bottom end move in the opposite direction"
If the top end is very long compared to the bottom end then the top end will move alot and the bottom end wont move as much distance, and opposite for the bottom being longer

As the factory shifter is set up it is designed to shift smoothly and feel rather light and easy to manouver and have a large neutral space which is very comfortable and user friendly for the average driver, but by doing this they make the shift ark a fair ammount longer

Anyway i rambled, to the good and bad news

The good news: yes you can adjust it to the shorter setting and make it work ssmoothly
However
The bad news: you will have to cut into the plastic shift support/bracket/assembly (the big white thing that holds the shifter) and u will also have to put the blue alu bushings under that support assy

This will make the shift ark and stem length a fair bit shorter, which looks better and also shorter shift times, and as that goes the shifting will be heavier as a mild down side, so if u daily drive it will be a bit more effort but im sure u will get used to it

The part that needs cutting out is basically where the drivers side cable of the shifter goes and the support plastic stops the cable frOm being able to angle and move when the shifter is lower, remove the plastic its catching on and it works perfectly fine and the structure of the shift support is still very strong

I'll get pics when i help jaidogz fix his as i forgot to take them on mine

I installed my shifted today it was easy following you guide res so thanks for that.
I had two small issues, the first one was i had to use the original pivot cups as the ones sent with the shifted where just a touch to big no matter how much i tried, using the original ones have made it feel a little tight .
I see how they go over the next few days and see how the settle in but i might have to revisit that in the near future.
Second issue i had was the grub screw on the main pivot ball stuck out a mil or so and would not sit in the cradle properly, tried all the grub screws in different combos and the second one was still sticking out, i didn't see anyone else having this problem so my thought is either try and get a smaller grub screw or slightly drill he divit in the shifter a bit deeper.
