DIY: E4-9 Short shift install

For the grub screw i ended up only using the inner grub screw (2in each hole)
So yeh used just the inner one and has been fine for a long long time now with no troubles

I used the pivot cup things that came with the shifter, and they were also ever so slightly too big for me, but I just grind them against some sand paper and they then fit in just perfectly, so try that.

I hate how I'm the only one who failed to install this. I must try again soon. Everything is just that bit harder with my car I swear.

I think i might try that Jazza, its like there jjuuuusssstttt that bit to big, but the original ones are to tight i think the link on the bottom of mine doesn't appear to be moving at all and its just moving the cable but no give at all in the cup /pivot. I didnt put my solid bushes in either and because the shifter is a bit tight you can really see how much the whole housing moves with the rubber bushes still in.

The point of those bushes is so the housing doesn't move! It's meant to make it feel more firm I think?? Yea try that, because when I put on the stock ones they wouldn't move much at all.

yep the solid bushes will make the whole housing from moving you are right, I just didnt put mine in cause the bolt slashed my thumb and it wouldn't stop bleeding lol, so I thought id leave for another day.

1/2 a point ;)

the stock gear shifter knob doesnt fit, you have to grind about 15-20 mm off the bottom of the original shifter, i just used my angle grinder then screwed it back on and works fine

good did res, as jazz said make this slot easier to understand. I refitted my short shift into my car this time with the solid bushes and i put them on the top like you did and its perfect. This is and excellent diy very informative.

cheers for the write up mate...
installed mine and works a treat... although I had to use my original plastic cups as the ones supplied were too big

love the short shifting though

has anyone had trouble wIth syncroz as a result?

I had the same thing with the cups as the supplied where to large to fit in. The shifted was fairly tight for a day or two but then worked sweet.
It might be grinding a bit if its tight especially the one on the side that seemed to take a little while to free up nice. did you use plenty of grease?

Ive installed the same short shifter a while back, and the shifts really were shorterned but after like a week the length of travel between gears seems to have gone back to normal, anyone else experienced this? Is there an adjustment for it?
