u have an MR cluster, thats just how they are, get a gli or glxi cluster then they will be clear, but the dials are black on the gl(x)i models not white dials

or even an earlier MR model one, cause my MR one isnt orange, and that a 98 model

your talking about the needles?

i had a ce1 cluster ( white needles, grey face )

but now i have a ce3 cluster ( red needles. black face )

doesnt matter if its glxi, mr or gli. its the model lancer you have that changes it

My tip go for inverted or those ones that splay out dome= Bright sports!

bit of a noob question: illegal to change the dash indicator (Aka arrows) globes to Blue?

most dash globes are pure white....they have a green lens though.. so you might have to remove lens to remove green colour..

ce's have a blue cover on their standard dash globes
yellow halogen light + blue cover = green-ish light

i cant see it being illegal glenjiman, or more not something that cops would go out of their way to pull u over for

police wouldn't even see it unless they were in a 4WD... And, I am sure there are 'standards' - but have never seen anything in ADRs that say your dash indication lights need to be a certain colour...

As long as they are in place, and giving you the correct information, go nuts!

They certainly can book you for contra-coloured lights on the exterior.. all external colours are mandated, of course..

My 2c

I did this to my CE, but unfortunately the lights are quite dim.
For some strange reason, the stock lights had blue silicone caps over them, yet the dash lit up red?
I know this is an old topic, but any after pictures would still be appreciated.
Also, where did you get the LED's off ebay? I need to replace mine with a brighter set...

buy a 10x pack of T10's on ebay and a 10x pack of T5's, will cost less than $10 landed for both packs easy

dunno the silicone caps exact purpose but it makes the dash light that greenish tinge all oldish dashes had

i recomend if ur going leds to go white, will look sweet and more modern and not teenage ricery

thats all white globes, they look a bit bluey cos of the crisp led light, but yeh under $10 for it all landed cluster and aircon dials the lot

I've put some white LEDs in and was quite pleased with the effect (gives that nice, clean backlit effect - similar to our Gen IV Liberty, much more modern than the yellow of normal globes).

Two things:
- I'd actually like that instrument back lighting to be on all the time. The instruments basically disappear through tunnels.
- there are some dreadful unlit spots in the instruments, resuliac, did you change all lights over to LEDs, including the T5s? Looking at your photos (and it just may be the exposure) you seem to have acheived a much more even spread of light.

I'm guessing with the lighting fed from the circuit board of the instrumentation that this would be basically impossible with the lights there, but was wondering if there might be a way to feed power from the accessories circuit into some T10 fittings installed into various sites around the outside of the instrument cluster pod, or maybe (if there is such a thing) a couple of T10 LED strips lining the top and bottom of the cluster pod.

mine is a fairly good spread of light changed over T5's and T10s with cheap ebay wide angle white superbright bulbs fig1.
no real dull spots, altho around my fuel and temp it looks alot brighter due to the closer proximity of the bulbs in that area
other than that very good visability and brightness, very crisp clean more modern looking cluster
fig1.

its a bit of a custom mod what you are thinking of doing... it can be done but u gotta have a good plan, also maybe a spare cluster to test it out on 1st (pick up from wreckers)
just need to be aware that there are clear plastic light reflectors all through the inside of the cluster which are positioned to spread the light from where the stock bulb positions are
fitting the extra bulbs in may be a tight squeeze along with their wiring

very much recomend using proper T10 and T5 sockets, for better safety and easy plug and play with different bulbs

but yeh dont think anyone else has done this sort of thing b4 so make sure if u do do it you write up a diy on putting in the extra bulbs

for another route, you could look into jap evo EL style dials, these are however expencive and i dont know anyone who has bought them

Thank you for the DIY! has been an easy mod aside from taking out 2 of the lights where the air-con is...

However when doing this on the last light the fuse blew i replaced it with another one then it also blew. A friend came home and he threw in a white fuse over the normal red one he said its bigger but recommanded i asked on here if this is ok? Also tho its all currently working my right headlight only works on 50% of the time im not going to use my lights or drive at night unless im sure its ok. Any help would be great cheers!

ah this is tru, good spot michael, maybe its a mivec or evo cluster that goes to 180
my cluster goes to 200km/h, and the rpm would be off too^

nah the tach revs from 0-9k on the EL dial, whereas mine is 0-8k
good that someone picked up on that

Oh you thinking about getting the El Dials i got them Taco was fine
but the km was out so i told them and they sent me the other one
and now no problems i got mine from ebay but are different colour from
those ones but are hell bright
