CH Lancer Evo 8/9 Turbo Build 4G69T

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

also. have you thought about the decompression needed in the head/internals for a turbo's compression?

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

if you really want help on this go to the 4gtuner forum and talk about it there.. barely anybody here has enough knowledge on turbos to help you as much as you need it.
4gtuner will have a broad range of knowledge and will benefit you highly, you just have to read up on heaps of *poo* and ask questions

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

dont buy any exhaust *poo* on ebay, especially if its for other cars.

get a second hand oem evo7-9 manifold and turbo, you could even use the stock intercooler piping and upgrade it later.

infact, nearly all the hardware you want is evo7-9.

3" is the best option for the exhaust. that ebay dump pipe looked terrible, where does the flow from the wastegate go? smack into a gasket? that wont help at all.
stock evo exhaust might bolt on, but it most probably will hit the sump due to the higher deck heigh of the 64/69 block over the 63 block.

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

paulie- well first of all i have to use parts from other cars as there is no such thing a complete turbo kit for this engine.
stock evo mainfold and turbo wont fit as the flange is different. il be using a t3/t4 turbo instead of a 16g because i can get a manifold to fit it and there generally one of the most common turbos.

next the dump pipe, unless i get one custom made($$) thats the only one i can find that fits a 5 bolt - t3 flange

now the downpipe i suppose i could use a OEM evo 7-9, if i can get hold of one.

already considered using evo piping but cant use the part that comes off the intake manifold cuz they use a different type of MAF. so i will be using the first section of my cai,and the intercooler wont fit as there is a huge crash bar on the normal lancers that the evos dont have so i cant use that either.

pretty much the only thing i can use from an evo is the downpipe and exhaust :(

lachy- thanks mate il jump on there and have a look :)

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

For the money u are gunna spend is not worth it, u can but a evo 7 for round 15k if u look for long enough. I just traded my wifes ce and bought a 7 with all the evo 9 upgrades for 18k. So seriously think what about what u are doing and weigh up the costs. At the end of the day u will have a fwd tourqe steering pig that will have no resale value.

I seen your post on 4gt and I doubt that u will get helpful information besides sell it and buy a evo. U could also buy a cc gsr for about 5k and still have a faster car than what ur ch will be after 15k worth of work done to it. But hey at the end of the day its ur money and ur choice on what u want to do. I'm only stating the obvious reasons on why not to do it and I'm not a uneducated forum troller. I work for Mitsubishi as a leading mechanic and have a lot of knowledge in modified mitsus. If you need help with what to look for when buying a evo ill be more than happy to help.u out. Perth also has a very good mits modified scene so plenty of help will be offered from over that way...

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

mate the lowest price evo in WA is 25k for a 2001 model.. the prices are alot diff between states.. if i could get an evo for around 18 k my car wud be up for sale within 5 mins but its just not gonna happen. and this car cost me only 5K so im not too worryed about how much money i be putting into it the budget is around 1.5K for all the parts and how ever much else for tuing and engineering so it still comes in a hell of a lot cheaper than buying an evo plus the insurance on an evo wud be like 5K per year :| its 2.5 for a stock ch es!

so pretty much theres no way i can afford one.

Re: CH Lancer Turbo Build

okay well finally have a decent amount of money so im gonna start collecting the parts for the build. decided to go a differnt way and use stock evo parts for the easyer tuning and much cheaper and simpler as most evo 7-9 parts are bolt on.
il be starting with the basics and get the complicated more expensive parts last.
TPHDDPCATTOML0305.gif

il be bidding on this package tomoz trying to save an extra $25.. dont judge me for being cheap!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350425898560&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

all bolts up to the CH Lancer apart from the flange on the manifold has to be cut off and one to suit my engine welded on( dad can do it at work with the mig welder.

going to be using a stock evo 8 (or 9 if the price is right) 16g Turbo so that will be the next bit to buy. wish me luck.

HATERS GONNA HATE!!

Naaahh not hate just do an evo 8 engine swap (can't remember the engine) :p

hehe, you need many more parts yet... I would say it will cost you $4500 all up, if you do the work yourself. Remember, you might bigger injectors, possibly a higher volume fuel pump and rail and all the intercooling and oil piping yet...

I would like to turbo mine too.. but the kit is still $4500USD, plus delivery would be another $800... it's a big effort, but I doubt that a front cut would be as simple or cheap either.

yeahh fuel pump is needed just to be safe (walbro 255) from what iv read the all the injectors will be chosen after i decide the ECU set up.

and RPWs full kit is $9000 RRM $4500 plus post from us :| and this way it should be around $4000 ish

well, buying local is a great thing, but you're paying too much that way... I will go with an RRM kit, from the USA. That means it will be a full $3.5K cheaper than a West Aussie-landed kit...

Buy whatever suits your purpose.. I hope you choose to buy slowly and buy quality over just 'getting it done quickly'.

Doesn't RPW install, put in all the ecu gauges etc, tune it and then dyno it and tune it again?? Personally I'd go with that cause they also do the forged pistons etc... But I'm heading the line of the 4g63 straight from a wrecked evo 7/8 hopefully, would also do the awd drive conversion and lock the fronts yawww boi.

i say if ur really keen and want a project then do what ur doing, it will take ages and cost fkloads but at the end of the day it is quite an achievment to be proud of regardless of power output/cost

but if u want easy power buy an evo or swap in an evo engine

Ok so u didnt take my advise before (dont really care)...

Buy a dohc 4g63 head with everything attached, pull the head of you mivec engine. Put the head on and then you will effectively have a 2.4 stroker 4g63t.

essentially you will be looking for a complete top end from evo 4-8 (evo 9 can used but its a lot trickier). In this complete top end u will require the ecu, engine loom, afm and all other accessory's.

That's a good start, but please do more research before going and buy parts of eBay! evolutionoz.net is another good place for you to get parts and advise. 4gtuner is mainly aimed at early 4g's not late models...

RPW will more than likely be doing the ecu and tuning.. but installing wont be a problem for me and dad as iv been researching basically since i got the car and know *poo* loads about it now, and dad has built engines etc in his car when he was young so a pretty good team

skip i also looked down that road.. and discovered its gonna have around the same power output no matter which way i go, just the evo swap will have more work involved and a half cut will cost around 4K plus install at i have no way of taking the engine in /out.. so around the same price too

for you it would be easyer to use an evo 7/8 ecu, maf/map sensor and all stock evo parts seen it done on evom and youtube. a hell of alot easier than engine swap.

i wanted to go that way instead of standlalone ems etc, but as mine is a bigger displacement it wont be getting enuff fuel
and mine is drive by wire so cant use that ecu anyway. so i really dont have that option :(

hmmm yeah your on the 4g6 base I'm on the 4g9 base. I'd be better off putting a 4g93t into mine, or at least the dohc head and manifolds, but I'd rather do a complete swap for something that is already turbo'd ready... We'll see in a years time Oliver, by then we hopefully would of done our turbos, then we can face off down at whoop ass wednesday :D
