CH Lancer Evo 8/9 Turbo Build 4G69T

The thing you've got to realise also with kits like the RRM and RPW is that these are tried and tested kits, and will come with everything ready to go on. By the sounds of your kit there is a lot of unknowns and going to be a lot of trial and error. RRM and RPW have put the time and money into developing these kits, and they are going to be of a good quality. Alot of the gear you buy on ebay, especially with exhausts, manifolds, etc is rubbish quality and will not last very long at all, esp after you've got a bit of boost running through it.

Go ahead and do it how you want, but there has been a lot of advice given here. If you don't want to use it that's upto you, but don't whinge if it blows the kit or engine to pieces

yes i relise that they have been tested ect.. but at the end of the day most of the kit will be at the end of the day a pipes a pipe  the things that make the difference is the actual turbo( iv bought a stock evo 8 16g) and yes the ebay manifolds etc probability are *poo*. but that doesnt bother me as RRM's manifold is just as crap, on evom there always complaining about them cracking. also iv had an ebay catback on the car since i bought it and its of a very good quality no rust or sighs of cracking or anything.everyone is always first to jump on the "ebay stuff is crap" band wagon, but in reality the ebay parts are usually exact copies of branded items
and RPW's use a T25 turbo... :? and i have a professional mig welder on hand anyway if anything breaks

i appreciate the advice, dont get me wrong. but iv put alot or time into researching this stuff. the make or break of doing it this way relys mainly on 3 things:
-ECU/EMS - Tuning
-decent turbo (stock is good quality and cheap to replace if it blows up)
-injectors fuel pump and pressure regulator (so it doesnt lean out and detonate)

now as long as those things are up to the standard the build should be fine. of course theres going to be risk. there always will be with turboing a NA car, im in no rush to get it put to together im just gathering all the parts right now.
b4 we go putting it on we well double and triple check everything.

To be completely honest. I'm sceptical. Though I believe that you have done your research, and in the end of the day its a) your car b)your cash c)your choice. I'd love to be able to cruise with the finished project and It'd be pretty goddam awesome once it is.

p.s. I'll save my 4g94 for you incase the s*** hits the fan yo :D

haha thanks man  also everyones saying about blowing it up etc.. were not talking a a 4G63T here, $3000 a peice. these engines sell for $500 ish on ebay with tranny and everything

okay well having a think about LWNSLW's evo head ,afm and ecu idea.. this makes alot of sense and im looking at sourcing a complete top end from an evo 4-8

LWNSLW: 1- thanks for the advice  2- do i need anything else to do the swap other than: the head, intake manifold cams, timing belt , ecu ,air flow meter?

If you are in Perth, seriously talk to "Chowetime" as her car was the RPW 4g69 turbo prototype. She will probably be able to answer everything you would want to know about pursuing this course of action.

turbo came today :)
evo 8 16g 9.8T tiny amount of shaft play but for $200 posted cant complain

next step is to buy an adjustable acutuator under (5-10PSI spring) cuz i dont want to run over that.

manifold, dump pipe, downpipe and high flow cat has been ordered should come in the next few weeks :)

yeah im gonna be running low boost ( around 7PSI which has been proven many times to be fine on stock internals) and the eventually use evo rods and 87mm wiesco forged pistons and crank it up to around 12-16 psi

okays well i got the manifold in the mail, rpw quoted me $900 for a standalone haltech ecu, i should contiune the build or sell up for a 180SX/R33 Skyline? opinions?

gone over your budget? you were going to with the low budget that you set for the project.
or if not whats changed your mind about selling up.. for an already turbo'd car? it wont be unique as this would.

yeah thats very true! i hope you can sell all your parts and break even or come out ontop to give you a bit more towards a turbo car :)

get a starlet gt or a pulsar gtir they are such good little cars for a decent price

stock turbo car would be a much better base.... as much as id hate to say it

i was digging this thread until that last post

Starlet?! Why not a Daewoo Matiz...!? Suzuki Mighty Boy..!?

Get an OEM turbo Lancer if you can stretch it... seems to be one of the most respected platforms.
