I would want to be able to get someone to transfer the odo over as well.

A couple clips to get the front off & four screws to remove the speedo/odo & your done

...Oh and is it really that surprising that a cheap FWD 4cyl car aimed at fuel economy doesn't have a tacho standard in their base model???? Just sayin'
Well in the 2000's they started doing away with coolant temp gauges!!! That seems bloody stupid to me.... (Echo, Getz, quite possibly more). I have always found the tacho to be relatively useful. When I got my Mirage when I was 17 and wasn't used to the engine being so quiet and smooth etc (compared to a 1994 Barina lol). On more than on occasion I forgot that I had started the car and attempted to start it again resulting in crunching sounds from starter motor LOL.

CJs don't have a dedicated guage, its just a dodgey one on the screen (which normally you would have the fuel or distance screen up instead) with like 3 stages to it, but then again so along as the screen shows a message when it overheats and that's all I could really care about engine temp....
Well, in the CE they have just a normal gauge but the temp stays rock solid on one single spot, tells me that the gauge isn't sensitive enough to pick up changes (as in, thermostat closes, car gets to temp, thermostat opens, cools slightly and so on). But at least you have a general idea when something is up (whenever it goes above that certain spot). But Echos and Getz just have a cold indicator (blue water temp sign) then if it's overheating it will show a red one. I'd hate to have to replace a headgasket just because a car company was too tight ass to have a real gauge for the coolant temp... I pay a lot of attention to them because my Alfa's all have sensitive gauges which are pretty much constantly moving. CE gauges just seem really, really sluggish in comparison. Like when I put fuel in it and it took forever to get to the top of the gauge lol

I almost bought an Echo instead of my Lancer and if I did I was going to install a coolant temp gauge lol.

Maybe the gauge stays on one single spot because the temperature is regulated by the thermostat. The car will more or less be in equilibrium after 5minutes or so. meaning that it will be producing as much heat as the radiator and exhaust etc is shedding.
