Why no rev counter?

Blue connector white wire in the engine bay next to wipe motor, but its better to hook straight to ecu , search tach cluster theres heaps of info. It is most times easy but sometimes people have had hassles ( self included) here's a like with some trouble shooting

and here's one with some info aswell
http://www.auslancer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=811&p=44102&hilit=tacho+install#p44102
there's a diy on another forum and Google is your friend.

Keep in mind that some cars will have the wire from the gauge cluster to the ecu for the tacho already in place - so it literally is just remove old cluster & fit new one
-Remove connector from ECU & continuity check from pin 58 to pin what ever the tacho is on the cluster.

& as above - mines a 1.8 GLi - no standard tacho, no 1.8 badge. '02 model.

And the GLi's that had the 1.8 were badged the GLi 1.8. All 1.8's will have a tacho.

It seems my sedan is here to prove you wrong :p

In Australia, the Seventh sold from 1996 to 2004. It was designated as the CE series. Like the previous generation, it was available in a variety of body styles, which helped to cater for a more broad audience. The introduction of a sporty MR coupe helped to target this model directly towards a younger audience.

1999–2001 Mitsubishi Lancer (CE II) GLXi sedan (Australia)
The station wagon continued on as a CE model, even though it was essentially carried over from the previous generation. This model had an unusually long model run, becoming increasingly uncompetitive as the years went by and often heavily discounted by dealers. Towards the end of its model run, Mitsubishi introduced some limited edition models (based on the GLi) to remain competitive with its rivals, these editions featured extras such as sports interiors, alloys and body kits off higher spec models. Generally, this generation sold well throughout its production run.
It should be noted that despite the introduction of the eighth generation Lancer Cedia in 2000, the CE series continued to be sold alongside it until mid-2004. The sedan was available in GLi trim, until it was finally discontinued in 2003. The coupe was facelifted and now only available in GLi and MR trims.
Due to its appearance, affordability, and the rise in status of the Lancer Evolution, this generation was quite popular with young car enthusiasts and the aftermarket modified Japanese car scene. Some popular modifications include exhaust systems, suspension, after market stereos and replica Evolution body kits.
Series I (96-98) and Series II (98-99)
GLi - 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. Powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.5 L engine (4G15 SOHC - 69 kW)
GLXi - 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. Powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.8 L engine (4G93 SOHC - 88 kW)
MR - 2-door coupe. Powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.8L engine (4G93 SOHC - 86 kW)
MR - 4-door sedan. Powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.8L MIVEC engine (4G93 SOHC - 141 kW)
GSR - 4-door sedan. Powered by a turbocharged 1.8 L engine (4G93t DOHC - 141 kW)
MXd - 4-door sedan. Powered by a turbodiesel 2.0 L engine (4D68T SOHC - 65 kW)
Series III (99-03)
GLi - 2-door coupe (1.5 L or 1.8 L) and 4-door sedan (4-cylinder, 1.8 L)
GLXi - 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan. Powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.8 L engine
MR - 2-door coupe. Powered by a 4-cylinder (6-cylinder, 99-00), 1.8 L engine
Series IV (02-04) coupe update only
GLi - Choice of 1.5 L engine (discontinued in 2003) or 1.8 L engine, 4 Cylinder
MR - Powered by a 1.8 L engine, producing 86 kW (115 hp) & 163 N·m (120 lb·ft) of torque (1500-4500 rpm) out of a 4-cylinder

So as I said above, the GLi would've been an option an extra, or just not provided at all in the GLi's, but as you can see in CEIII and CEIV you had the choice in what engine.

I wouldn't believe that^^ It also says there was a 6 cylinder MR which clearly isn't true, in Australia at least.

Kinoko if the biggest number on your speedo is 200 I'll guarantee your cluster has been changed..

I have one on my '99 GLI Series II 1.5l. No optional extras, it's just a stock-standard series II. I've seen two other '99 models, one with (a series II) & one without (a series I). I had assumed series I came without & series II came with it, but I guess that's not the case. I wonder why it's a bit of a mixed bag?

has anyone been to pick n pay less in blacktown NSW... they have a few CE models there.... some clusters there with tacos that i would LOVE to get my hands on but a little far to travel

I might be able to get an auto MR cluster tomorrow or next day if its available, it'll work on auto or manual car can't remember if its a white dial or black dial though.

would it matter if u put an auto on a manuel and vis versa

Nope but if you put a manual one in an auto car you won't have the P,R,N etc on the dash but apart from that it'll make no difference.

My car has only had one previous owner who bought it new and I am fairly certain he wouldn't have changed it... Why would you downgrade ??? As well as that the cluster in it now had 221,xxx on it...

not all 4g93 will have the tacho, if the theory is right it's GLI's in general which don't have them... Really the best way for anyone to find out, is actually find a brochure about the CE lancer when they were brand new, it'll have a break down of all the features for each model.

+1 :)

pff, well out of the literally hundreds of ce's with 1.8's i've seen, yours is the very first not to have a tacho and a speedo up to 220km.
maybe the original speedo broke (as that's apparently common issue) and he just got a new tacho and transferred the odo over. You should find a cluster with a tacho anyway, plug it in and i reckon the tacho will just work. transferring the odo is apparently easy as i've heard also.

if your cluster goes to 220 and u put in 1 that goes to 200 will it be out of does it run off a sensor

Haha, well I always have to be an exception somehow :p I am definitely planning to swap the cluster if I can find one... :/

My Mr one goes to 220, and i just sold one out of a 1.8 coupe that had tach and only went to 200. Ive also seen 1.8 sedans without tach's , it would have been an option id say. and given how easy they are to change and the fact there notorious for capping them selves its no sunrise there are many variations out there.
