Why no rev counter?

OKay, so why on earth did Mitsubishi decide not to put a rev counter on the 99 CE GLI? While it isn't really necessary as I am not deaf, but they look cool, and I feel as if I am missing out. haha
So, what did you guys do about it? I don't want to put a aftermarket rev counter on my dash, so how hard is it to replace the whole dash thingo with the speedo etc on it?

Cheers

Easy buy a cluster that has the revs and swap them over. You just have to get the rpm signal right. There is quite a bit on here about swapping and trouble shooting this.

Mate my standard cluster with rev counter is for sale pm me an offer. Just a note that it is all normal speedo in km/h and revs etc....except the odometer/trip is in miles, so it reads around 80000miles. Don't ask me why as i am yet to determine how the fck it happened.

I myself am wondering this with my '03 CE Sedan... Ah well, not a necessity would be nice though... I would want to be able to get someone to transfer the odo over as well.

A couple clips to get the front off & four screws to remove the speedo/odo & your done

...Oh and is it really that surprising that a cheap FWD 4cyl car aimed at fuel economy doesn't have a tacho standard in their base model???? Just sayin'

Well in the 2000's they started doing away with coolant temp gauges!!! That seems bloody stupid to me.... (Echo, Getz, quite possibly more). I have always found the tacho to be relatively useful. When I got my Mirage when I was 17 and wasn't used to the engine being so quiet and smooth etc (compared to a 1994 Barina lol). On more than on occasion I forgot that I had started the car and attempted to start it again resulting in crunching sounds from starter motor LOL.

i thought it all the gli didnt have the rev's, i thought the GLXI's and MR were the only ones that come with it>?
my gli has a tachometer but mines a 2002 model

Some gli's don't have it and some do. Generally the older ones don't have it I think.

When I was looking to buy a car, it HAD to have a tacho. I like knowing my revs

ive been thinking about this and someone said that i need to find a blue cable in my engine bay to attach the rev's to but for the love of god i couldnt find it

anyone no what im talking about

Mmm, seems like a bit of a mixed bag. I was kinda perplexed that my '03 Gli Sedan didn't have one to be honest being one of the last of the shape. Have to find someone who can help me if I can find a cluster for it.

CJs don't have a dedicated guage, its just a dodgey one on the screen (which normally you would have the fuel or distance screen up instead) with like 3 stages to it, but then again so along as the screen shows a message when it overheats and that's all I could really care about engine temp....

Pretty sure rev sensor wire is white.

I'd say with the case in the CE's of some GLI's have tacho's and some not, would possibly come down to optional extras... Also a fact that some could've been sold with a "sports" pack with tacho, generic mag wheels, etc etc.
But also, there were GLI 1.8's that were badge as GLI's but with the 1.8l instead, this was then replace when the GLXi game out which had the 1.8l... both of which would've had tacho's since all 4g93 model CE's would've had one.

I find this in the case of a few cars that don't plan to make power and be a fuel saver (like someone said above) don't have tachos, so 1.3, 1.5, 1.6l n/a's without variable valve timing[mivec]. But then around 1.8l/2l you start to get them since 92kwatf is 'a lot' in a small car... but contradicting that, older model cars (pushing say 20, 30years, 80's 90's) didn't come most of the time standard....

Anyway. If you so desperate for one, get a 1.8l one and wire it in, otherwise go get a 56mm gauge tacho that you can descretely mount on you a pillar without looking like a d-bag :D

No i think it is blue, from what i've read. Simo it should be up around the top of the engine bay, sorta near the fuel rails? I think I've seen it before.

And the GLi's that had the 1.8 were badged the GLi 1.8. All 1.8's will have a tacho.
