SOHC have 1 cam, DOHC have 2, easiest way is just see how many cam gears you have on your car, another easier way to find out what engine is in your car is to look at your rego papers.
 good point.

Its probably harder to do an engine swap in a CC/CE Lancer?
wouldn't it just bolt straight in?

I think there is more too it, not that I'm in the market for an engine swap right now.

hey guys I've got a 2000 Lancet 1.8 4g93 but it has the spark leads going into the the rocker cover. Is this a twin cam model import or did they come out like this in Australia? I'm curious to find out what motor it has

No its a SOCH, here is mine naked with it's top off!
The cam is hidden somewhat in the center but you can clearly see the 16 valves and the tubes are where the spark plugs live.
You CE Lancer has the engine reversed with the timing belt on the drivers side, but it's basically the same inside.

No you don't need to unbolt anything to get to the plugs, the leads should come right out but might need some twisting. You'll need a long extension on the socket to get the spark plugs out.

DON'T take off the cover valve unless you need to work on the internals (and know what you're doing) or like I did replace a leaky gasket and painted the cover while I was at it.

Do ce lancers Mr model have different engines like tickford in xr model Ford's?
No, the 1.8 4G93 is basically the same engine that is in the CC. A few electronics changed and they put it in the wrong way around but the power/torque output is the same, as far as I know.

So I only have to leads going into the rocker cover, so I twist these out then unholy the cover to access the plugs? Why is the plugs so different to get to when other model are standard like other cars? Was there a reason for putting them so far in the motor? Thanks in advance for any advice guys

The plugs are in no further than other multi valve engines where they go in the top.

The only tool you need is a spark plug socket and the right length extension, which most socket sets come with. You do NOT have to unbolt anything, the lead should come right out, with a little tug.

If there is oil on the end of the lead then this means the casket is leaking and you may need to replace it, but might be a good idea to check the tension of the cover bolt. Only do this if you have a torque wrench unless you know what you're doing. Don't over tighten them.

-_- dude you have to unbolt the two coilpack from the valve cover to get to 2 of the spark plugs. Again, The CC uses a distributor so all the leads come from that. CE uses the 2 coilpacks that are mounted on the valve cover.

Ok but I only have two leads going into the cover shoupdnt there be four? That's why I'm assuming the cover had to come off. Which isn't a hassle anyway coz I wanna paint it. So I can access all four plugs via the two holes the leads go thru?

Nah you need to pull the 2 coils off and the other leads come off with it. It has to come off if your painting the cover anyway haha.
