This might sound like a dumb question but which engine do I have?
2001 gli ce sedan. I'm pretty sure i have a 4g93 but how do I tell if its a carby, single cam, twin cam or direct fuel injection?

Ive got the black boxes at the far end of the engine if that helps.

The ces dont come in carby. Sure fire easy to tell is a g15 head will say 12 valve and a g93 head will say 16 valve on the rocker cover. Just pop the hood and see.

Only lancers made before like 1993 or thereabouts are carby

Im willing to bet money on it being a:
- single cam 4g15 with direct fuel injection.

A car is either carby or fuel injected. In australia, they do not sell carby engine anymore (that i know of) due to them being less efficient then fuel injection. Australia got ripped on in terms of engines for the lancers, so its definitely a single cam engine, unless someone imported an engine head and did a swap over.

You can sort of see the engine in this pic.

Is there some sort of serial number on the block that will tell me more info about the engine eg single or twin cam.

No australian made CE lancer came with a twin cam, and from your pictures it shows its a single cam anyway

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell the difference between a single and twin cam just from looking at it?

Really really simply and basically, single cam us usually fairly narrow up the top of the engine, whereas a twincam will be thicker or wider.

Plugs down the centre and the bit where it says DOHC are a big giveaway too.

Many years ago (When I was a kid) I did an engine swap in a 76' Celica from a single to a double OHC. The main reason for the swap was a dying engine.

Its probably harder to do an engine swap in a CC/CE Lancer?

SOHC have 1 cam, DOHC have 2, easiest way is just see how many cam gears you have on your car, another easier way to find out what engine is in your car is to look at your rego papers

4G15******** is 1.5
4G93******** is 1.8
