When i got my licence first car i had was an auto, and i enjoyed driving, then when i got my manual lancer i LOVED to go for random drives whether it would be taking it easy or gunning it, just feel more in command over what the car does not too mention feeling like a sick kient when shifting fast

Manual. Both cars are manual. It becomes second nature and you get to feel for yourself where your car is best in. Latest one now is driving without traction control on, Ive always got it off. Dont need it on its only a little car. Best turned off on dirt roads though

I pick manual over auto as i live in a country area and so i like to drive my car for the trip. if i need to get round a truck on a hill i can drop down a gear, i don't have to wait for the car to change it for me.
it also allows me to set my self up for a steap hill before it starts not when it start to slow the car down.
what set me to manual will always be the evo 7. the GSR was only made in manual and it had all the extras, while the gta version came out with no bonnet vents, spoiler similar to cg lancer (not the high spoiler), no recaro seats and just plain ugly.

Again, you can do the same in an auto and very effectively if you know how to handle your car. If you don't know how to do it in an auto, you shouldn't be driving one. Better to stick to manual.

don't know how to do what in an auto? there's nothing to learn how to do but brake and accelerate.

How to over take a truck in an auto

Step 1. Leave larger gap behind trunk, you will see why soon

Step 2. Put foot to floor when opening appears

Step 3. Wait 10seconds for it to cycle through gears to correct gear

Step 4. Start over taking procedure

Step 5. Be careful as gears may top out and hit redline before it shifts

Step 6. Narrowly avoid oncoming traffic as your auto failed to get enough speed to efficiently over take

Step 7. Change undies and possibly pants.

Step 8. Buy Manual car.

If you don't know how to control your gear changes to overtake or go uphill effectively. The reason everyone hates auto's is because they can't do these things effectively. Relying on the same tactics you use in a manual car won't work in an auto, clearly. You have to find new ways to achieve the same objectives. It is very possible and not difficult if you know your car and know how the auto box in that specific car works.

Pedal to the floor will change you back 2 gears and straight into the powerband usually, halfway down will change back 1 gear and increase rpm by about 1-1.5k. Downhill you downshift as usual if you have a tiptronic, otherwise into 2nd and brake. Uphill you go half-power into the corner and foot flat on the floor out of the corner depending on the severity of the curve.

It's very easy to maintain torque (shut up Honda) and power in an auto if you know how to handle your car.

The above story does not actually happen

It did twice in the mirage!

Manual > auto especially in this class of car. Hands down, not debateable. Dont give me this bs about auto driving technique its a lame subsitute for a manual at best. I havent ever driven with someone who willingly chose an auto who id rate as a good driver.

Word!!!
Especially when people are saying autos are good when they cant even drive a manual, which I guarntee is over 90% of auto drivers.
How can you make an informed choice with only 50% of the info..... oh thats right ya cant.

a friendly reminder that the topic is: Was/Is your Lancer/Mirage an 'Automatic' or 'Manual'? not what transmission we prefer.

definately manual
although i agree with some people, manuals can get annoying in peak hr traffic, having to change up gears then back down gears etc.
but
over all i prefer manuals because 1... you have complete control of the gear your in and the revs of your engine.. 2... i love hearing the raw power of the manuals changing gears esp in ones with sports exhausts/etc. also the fact that with a auto, you have to rev the engine to a certain rpm before the torque converter kicks in and tells the car to move, with a manual its basically as fast as you can release your foot from the pedal :D
