Modified Ralliart Lancers

never had a problem with mine, never thought of cleaning them, i think i would just buy a new one each time.

so does the air filter make a big difference.. I rang my local supercheap auto and they said its "$120 for a k&n and they didnt have any different brands.. What other brands are there apart from blitz and hks??

Pretty small difference, it's hard to measure though really with a bum dyno :p

Dave and myself both use the HKS filter at around $60-65 off eBay

They are an oil-free disposable filter unlike the K&N which is oiled and can be cleaned and re-used. Personally I dont want an oiled one nor to have to muck around cleaning it every year....

they would be the best brands to get, and you would be looking a 5-10kw upgrade at max

never had a problem with oiled K&N.. but I follow instructions

I currently have them in; 2007 CJ Lancer, 2009 SAAB Convertible 9-3, 2004 Moto Guzzi V11 Ballabio and 1998 Ducati 996

the Guzzi has been in since new (2004) and is oiled once every year.. it's a simple 30-min job and because Saab and Guzzi original filters cost over $60, they have paid for themselves many times over.

Don't be scared to use them, they're good, accessible.. but may not be as easy to use as a foam one, because you do have to re-oil after 25,000km

thats what i have a mechanic for ;) hehe he does all my work for me... hes going to do everything for me at minimal cost hehe... i just gotta supply the parts

 If you buy the HKS filter off eBay its that easy I'm sure you can do it on your own!!!

lol yeh probably

but still i might break a nail :p hahahaha

nah just kidding, id do the airfilter and keep him on standby for my suspension and stuff hehe

i hav had both hks panel and the k&n. i vote k&n. they're 'lifetime' filters, and hav mesh through them, not just foam with some plastic ribbing behind it.

also, im not sure what the intake tract is like on a RA, but on my vr4, i gained 5kw overall with just a highflow panel filter.

wow, I noticed a big gain on my Ducati, not so much on my NA Lancer.. I am thinking (like your VR4), the Ralliart may gain some freer revving...

don't have an RA, but that is why EVO has the twin-scroll.. less lag.

My wife's turbo Saab similarly has turbo-lag shortcomings... when lease finishes in September, I am thinking of a twin-charge VW Golf or Polo...for her.

You might be able to get some advice about retrofitting a twin scroll to your RA. There is a company in the US that was making EVO killers out of the RA, for about $12k...

Maybe try getting your revs higher before taking off - I haven't driven an RA, but if the turbo spools up at 2500, try to take off with the revs at say 2000 so you don't have much time before it kicks in. I also found that doing the intake helps it get going a bit quicker on acceleration, as does a bigger downpipe. From factory, both these are probably quite restrictive to meet emissions testing.

And yes tryg... POG FTW. At sub 30k on road it's a lot of car for your money

I hope you weren't thinking of neutral drops or power braking take offs anyway... seems like a bad way to shorten the tranny's life...!

yeh nah i didnt actually want to be doing that... i just was hoping there was a way to perhaps shorten the lag. on a rolling start its great.. maybe if i take traction off maybe it wont bog down so much?????

Na wasn't even thinking of the auto box. Prob not the best idea in that case, although there is a time and place for everything. That said, turbos like to be revved and spooled up or you won't get much out of them so you have to drive them harder than na's.
