Front and rear stock speaker sizes?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what sizes in the CE's are the speakers in the 2 front doors? Also in the rear? (2001 model ruffly)

Also any advice on which aftermarket sizes will fit? ( ie 6.5's in the door?) and what sizes are in your car..

Much appreciated guys, Dane :D

they have 6in in as standard. 6.5 will fit but you will need to remove the surround in the doors first

i think stock came with either 4inch or 5 inch, but like just about everyone, i have aftermarket ones,
mine are 6.5' now

serious comment time....
6.5" in doors
rear stocks have a metal plate to line up holes so you will need to make some sort of mount up to the size you put it.
but either 6.5" or 6x9" up to your taste etc.

I am also interested in this, what sizes would fit in and be able to put the stock covers back on?

I've previously put 6" Pioneers in the front and rear of a CE. For the rear you just drill holes in the metal and use screws and bracket/nut things that come with the speakers to fix them down...

But yes I believe 6.5" speakers will fit, you just have to remove the plastic surround like mdclear said!

What do you guys get sound from? I went into JB -HiFi today (happened to be walking past and thought why not)... the guy quoted $2500 for 6x9, 2 amps and a 12" sub :/....

I've bought Alpine at Kicker stuff from JB HiFi (and Pioneer, Sony, etc for other people) and the sales guy there always gives me pretty much atleast 30% off the ticket price. Go back and tell him you know that he can do a better deal than that....

Yeah It was just rough ($550 for installation..LOL yeah no) I haven't put any sound in a car before... Is there a basic guide on how everything is meant to be connected.

I'll get a new $200ish Headunit (need aux)
Alpine 6x9's (2 for the back and 2 for the front, not sure what sizes will fit yet)
I single 12" sub (having double adds another amp?.. could get pricey)

I already have a red power cable going into the boot.. but that's about it

$2500??????? seriously? was this top of the range??????? what kind of power are you looking at?
my last system was a mid range clarion head unit 2x 6inch 2way, 2x 6x9 3way, all up i paid roughly $500 and that was from autobarn.
i added a 1400w 4 chanell amp and single 1200w 12inch sub later on for prob around the $450. all off ebay.

it all depends on what you want and how much your willing to spend

hell if your in vic ill come install it for half that! ;)

woah... Yeah no it wasn't even that top range... I have stock atm but its meh so I want something decent but not over done, Just something very Mid range :)
haha sorry biggreeny_101... Brisbane, QLD :p

my budget is no more than $1200... $1000 would be nice... I was looking at getting a single amp in the boot (bolt it 2 the side)... and a single 12" sub.. with nice speakers :)

As I said... I havn't a clue how to connect it or what all the specs of an amp and sub are.. I'm really keen to learn it all though!

Ouch pricey installation. Ummm no one has actually written a DIY guide on here, the main question though is can you solder??

Also I am not sure what the sedans have in the rear, but if they are like the coupes then a 6 or 6.5" is what you want, same as for the front. Don't waste your time with 6x9s, they are useless when you have a sub.

Nope dual subs don't conventionally require 2 amps, you'll run them in parallel (all wired this way inside their enclosure) off a single amp. Only thing is you may find you need a bigger amp if you want to get the most out of them. TBH though dual subs at your budget are more for wank factor than anything and I think you'd probably be more than happy with a single 12" sub.

Hahaa Yeah I just want a decent system.. not loud distorted crap you see afew of the P platers have (Wank factor)

Oh ok so a decent amp in the boot with a single 12" sub... and what did you mean "Don't waste your time with 6x9s, they are useless when you have a sub."... What kind of speakers should I get? Should I only have speakers in the front and leave the back empty?

Yeah I'm actually an IT guy so soldering is no problems :p

Oh and with headunits... (prob a simple question)

The more expensive headunits are totally useless when you have an amp right? Because the amp takes over?
soo the headunit is purely just for looks and inputs?

The whole point of 6x9s is they put more of an emphasis on bass, but when you have a sub they simply aren't needed.

These are what you want:

You will have to remove the plastic around the stock speaker from the door and possibly use a MDF spacer if it doesn't clear the hole fully or the window.

Then for a sub just find a 12" sub and amp with around 300W, you won't want to try and pull more than that without upgrading the power cable (to me it looks like you have a 8GA wire...)

Ummm yes and no. Just look for something that has the sort of connectivity (eg USB and/or iPod if you are that way inclined) and is in your budget....
