Exhaust Options

Seeing you live close to me, seriously come down and hear my car before I drop my sump. Actually hearing an exhaust can maybe help us inform you better on what you want to get out of your setup.

Yeah I'm definitely interested in hearing some for real, maybe I should also wait til we can get a vic cruise organised before I pay for anything.
It might just seem like it to me, but wouldn't your exhaust be pretty loud and performance based seeings yours is kinda track-y?

Extractors, 2.25" straight through with high flow cat and a Varex oval twin tip muffler

Alright got some quotes from some local zorst places.
1st place - According to them, redback dont make anything for lancers cept this thing thats 2.5' and is only from a bit behind the muffler (so i didn't want that) or a muffler that apparently will be "erring on the side of illegal" for 190.
2nd place - 2' catback custom-made mandrel piping to redback muffler for 240 OR 140 for just the redback muffler and my old tip welded on.

I'm thinking the $240 option, seeings that it involves a decent size (who the hell puts a 2.5 on a stock lancer?) as well as the muffler and whatnot.

Any thoughts?

Use a catalytic converter, 'that thingy', because it keeps you legal.... defects are not fun...

..what? I never mentioned getting rid of the catback? You're preaching to the choir, I spent weeks convincing my dad not to get rid of the cat for moral/health reasons THEN for the legality of it.

i'm pretty sure he said catback several times in the post......... Implying it still has a cat.

Tbh xenos, getting full system in 2' may not be worth it, if you wanted that size piping i'd just get the muffler, otherwise enquire about 2.25 instead.

Everything i've heard has said that 2.0 is pretty much the max you want for a stock engined lancer with stock cat and headers?

Okay, okay, calm the f*ck down.. kiddies.

Sorry I didn't read all the way, but one of the stated options was without...

Sorry for bothering, most here only have an axle-back.. and if you have pre- and post- O2 sensors, it means a great deal to fool with the cat... just thought I would lend some experience, since I bother to dyno and read/map my ECU when I do stuff....

go 2.25, will be better in the long run. if you get headers later you wont have to change you full exhaust again

Stock is around about 1.75" so anything larger is a bonus. You will find though that most Muffler and Cats are 2.5" and larger, so maybe scaling it up won't hurt you much as you think.

It isn't the pocket that hurts, as much as low-down-torque... if you're sensible and get good advice, either 2.25 or 2.5 is great for any small i4 engine, as long as you were going to do some more performance mods down the track. I agree with the sentiments above, if you ' future-proof ' yourself, by going a decent full zorst, you might lose a tiny bit down low and gain stuff up high, but with further mods, you will regain balance and get a good end result.

Yeah but I'm pretty much looking at doing the catback, and maybe months and months down the track if I get bored doing a high flow cat, and then years after doing headers/other things, so in that case I assume its probs worth sticking with having low-mid power (which is more useful to me anyways)

Hey guys, I'm looking at doing my exhaust soon, and was after 2 things:

1) I wanted to know what other people have, a salesmen can say anything but real opinions and experience win out every time. I was hoping just to hear what people have, how much it cost, nice sound or not (obviously gonna be a bit hard as its all subjective) and finally, any/how-much performance/mileage difference there was.
and
2) Kinda based off of the other question, what would people suggest? Some people might think that there are better options than their own so thats why I'm asking.

Thanks for any input.

Oh, only a cat-back... pity that wasn't in your original post.. I would have saved you time by not posting my now 'irrelevant' posts..

Xenos, I would get headers, they are probs in the top 10 for bang for your buck.

hens has the for like 200 bucks, and will benefit you more then you cat back for same price

Your stuff is still useful should I decide to do a full system and whatnot in the future, as well as for anyone else looking at a full system.
Also, to the people suggesting headers, I mentioned earlier that I'm mostly in for the sound, and any performance increase is secondary, so I don't think headers will do as much sound wise as a catback.

2.25, hotdog and mufler with dump tip?? sounds good on my brothers n14 dno about lancer with that setup . should be sweet if ur looking for a nice sound ..
