Exhaust Options

Hey guys, I'm looking at doing my exhaust soon, and was after 2 things:

1) I wanted to know what other people have, a salesmen can say anything but real opinions and experience win out every time. I was hoping just to hear what people have, how much it cost, nice sound or not (obviously gonna be a bit hard as its all subjective) and finally, any/how-much performance/mileage difference there was.
and
2) Kinda based off of the other question, what would people suggest? Some people might think that there are better options than their own so thats why I'm asking.

Thanks for any input.

Dont expect to be gaining much performance out of a stock engine, you may notice that acceleration is smoothed out and the car feels like it breathes easier, but getting an exhaust on it will not start throwing you back into your chair upon acceleration. With your car I would personally only go a 2" catback, enough to give it a nice note on acceleration but not so much that it will be droning on idle/low revs when you're just cruising around. You probably already know my opinion on cannons so I won't bother with mentioning it. My mother taught me if you can't say nice, don't say anything

full exhaust; including headers, larger cat, larger mid-pipe and fast-flowing axle-back exhaust (if coupled with a decent CAI and enhanced pre-plenum breathing) can make between 5-15%

Expect no more, but expect a cost of somewhere around $1200 minimum for that much.

Redback do a lancer exhuast?? Cant remember if I read someone on here if they got one.
Be a bolt on kit usually with a decent tone but not overly loud.

I used a Redback exhaust with some purchased mandrels to make my initial axle-back, sounded a lot better than stock, but no real power increase, only sound.

The power comes when you free up the whole system, not just the final muffler...

Just my opinion.

Yer just had a quick look on ebay Scotts Rods do some mainly for commo catback systems.. Redback might do extractors to maybe?? Something to look into

NICE AS said:
I suggest no fart cannon!
x2

i suggest u go for either a full (extractors + catback) or if u cant afford that go for extractors only and do the the catback later, u will get more power from the extractors than u will from soley the catback

its not something many ppl like doing and u will probably just do catback anyway and diregard this, but im serious, u will get more out of extractors alone than catback alone, worth getting them 1st or all at once

(also there are mandrel bent 2" reback catbacks on ebay everyonce in a while for $200 landed, may be worth going mandrel for that cheap and yes they are made to bolt up, other than that extractors:thumbup:)

Hens Headers 4-2-1 with a 2.25" Stainless Mandrel bent with a Magnaflow straight through muffler and High flow Magnaflow cat.

I personally want to ditch the cat as that restricts horsepower like you can't believe and maybe get a louder muffler. (You asked what my thoughts on my exhaust were)

i had stainless steel xforce extractors, stainless steel hi-flo-cat, 2.25inch piping, resonator, to a 3.5inch cannon.

sounded like *poo*, but did give some kw's. maybe 3-4? woulda sounded nicer n given more power with a muffler n tip, instead of a fart can.

also, dont get stainless steel, it vibrates like *poo* n that noise is horrid inside the cabin!!!

Yeah I'm pretty much after the sound, and any performance difference is just a bonus. Maybe later I'll do a full system, once I'm no longer so damn poor.
Also, I don't think I could ever ditch the cat, as we've done a fair bit on the use and whatnot of cats in cars as part of my environmental impact studies, and I have to suggest to most people its something you want to avoid (not to mention the legality) as there is a fairly legitimate reason to keep them on (my dad was going to remove his, managed to talk him out of it after a few hours of explanation).

So if I was after mostly sound, would an axle-back probably cover me? Or worth doing the little bit extra and doing a cat-back (or is it not worth the extra til you do the whole shebang)?

if you want sound just get 1.75 or 2 inch piping with a resonator and nice muffler with a twin tip. did that on my VU and it sounds awesome

surely he meant 2.75"

You can easily use 2.25" in your Lancer, without detriment. 2.5" may be going a little too far...

i meant that size for his CE. mines a 2.75 inch cat-back redback set up. sounds unreal. its not too loud in or out of the cabin, but as soon as you hit 2.5k revs... VROOOMMMMMM!!!! growls like a b1tch on roids!!! spesh with my Growler CAI.

i had 2.25inch on my ce, but that was supported by a full system, extractors, hi-flo-cat n all. if your not doing all that the max i'd go is 2inch.
