CJ Owners - Tyres that you recommend?

i noticed a few of those didnt have symetrical tred, what does that achieve?

Yup 18s are long gone, had 19s and then settled on 17s, much prefer them cheaper tyres and better cornering.

skippy I believe the inners are like that for water dispersion and better straight line stability, with the aggressive blocks on the side for grip when cornering... The KU21s in the first picture are asymmetric non-directionals and can be rotated from front left to rear right, vice versa to even out tyre wear and the block design also reduces noise....

ur tyres grip differently on the inside and out when u take corners hard and the such... take alot of corners hard and you will wear out the inside edge faster
im guessing that the inside edge is better designed for inside for maybe longer life-span whereas the outside for hard turn in bite

ahhh that makes perfect sense. Cause when browsing through the dunlop site i noticed that only the gravel rally tyres and a few other had that sort of design.

Thanks Ryan and Dave.. I will give the KU21's a look.

.

Did you end up with this tyre?

Im looking for new tyres since my dont grip at all and pretty much cannot drive the car in the wet at all.
Those wheels in your pic would look fantastic on my black VR. Can I ask what brand they are?

Id stay away from proxes 4s, i have a mate who had them put on his car for free and he says he wouldn't wish them onto an enemy they are that shocking. also another person said his car hooked up better on 50 dollar budget tyres at WSID compared to proxes 4s.

but then again if you are just after regular road going tyres they could be fine, but take the T1R or KU31 over them any day

I'm on my 3rd set of rubber now - 2nd set was a similar Yokohama to the originals and when they went I replaced them with the Toyo Proxes 4. I don't mind them at all - same level of grip as the supplied Yokohamas, but with a lot more durability. Done about 20,000 kilometres on them so far and in much better condition at this stage than either set of Yokohamas.

The stock Yokohamas are junk though. Jumbo KU31s are cheaper, quieter and have better handling....

After being deafened by road noise from the OE tyres by 45000kms, I opted for a full set of Falken FK452's, got them for $150ea. Only issue was that they don't make 215/45R18s, like the stockies, so I went for 225/40R18.
I noticed a huge reduction in road noise, turn in and acceleration grip, and far better wet cornering. Even fuel economy seems better if averaging 60-80km/hr (above that seems worse). They did well at Wakefield Park during torrential rain (those 370z's, mx5's, etc didn't have a chance in the wet).

My 2010 VRX (bought in October) has now done 105000kms, and I'm about due for another 2 (left side outside edge is 1.5mm, right side 3mm). I'll be going for the same again.

My daily drive starts and finishes at the top of a hill with 3kms of hairpins, and these babies perform beautifully.

I noticed a big change in grip at about 45-50000kms using these, with regular rotation, which I figure isn't bad for $150 tyres. Admittedly, I should have changed them earlier, just too many things happening at the moment.

FK452s have been replaced by the FK453 now.

They're out, yes, but are they a direct replacement? I'm hearing very mixed reviews about them. In the meantime, the FK452s are still for sale.
