CJ Owners - Tyres that you recommend?

Definitely be sceptical then.

You can get KU31/21's for under $200/corner. And they are legit. :)

Yeah, probably meant Goodyear... but hey.. I was tired..

And yes, they were '09 production, left them alone.

If you decide to go with Kumho's if you haven't picked some up already shoot me a PM. May save you some $$.

Dave, just went to view some Falkens, they look good but still $209 a corner...

Funny, the guy had a stand-up argument with me, saying I should use 235s... when I suggested they wouldn't fit, he said they would guaranteed, he knew those VRX/RA wheels, fitted stacks... yadda yadda...

I said they're only 7 JJ wheels, he said 'nup, 7.5" mate, I should know, my wife has a VRX etc etc....'

Priceless when he saw that they're only 7 JJ wheels.... Tool.

Nice when you know a fair bit about lots of stuff, but don't fool with the guy who knows lots more on just one thing~!

Anyway, the Falkens might be a go, just going to ring around for some better 'down-the-range' prices...

Well shoot me a PM if you want to try and get Kumho's cheap, legitimately after ringing around.

KU31's or 21's will come in under $200 I am sure of it.

yeah, but seem to be pricier... like a lot. I am sure with my 'barely-pull-a-skin-off-a-custard' power, the Falkens will probably be fine....

I asked the guy (he sells Kumho), he suggested the corners scrub way harder on them, and runs all his cars on Falken... I wish I could outlay for the Toyos, but they're $60 per more expensive.

I think they will be fine, me hopes!

I was driving around on 17's so my experience may be a bit different but i found the faulkens i had to be quite good but alot harder compound for daily driving. I also had a set of kuhmos(ryan knows what i had better than me :D) and found them to roll around corners better but i never keep up with Tyre maintenance and shreded the front ones pretty quickly.

I suppose you need to way up the costs of whether you want super soft grip your probably not going to be using at every single roundabout and corner your at or something with a harder compound which may not be as fun but if your driving alot is gonna save you hundreds.

I'll be selling my crap stock r/a wheels soon they annoy me to the max!

If the roads were better, around here, I would love to have 19" wheels, something with a superleggera flavour...

I was pleasantly surprised by the rather inexpensive Federal FD2 Formoza Luxury Tyres. I actually found them at KMart Tyre (only place in town with a physical set of 215 45 18). They have been quite sticky, very very quiet and great, so far, in rain and very cold roads.

I paid under $800 for the four.....

Under 800?! Jeez, I just forked out 1.2k for 4. $400 each they were. Dunlop SuperSport Maxx TT's only tyre that they had which had the correct load rating for my lancer... I lie, only one that wasn't a pos ;)

Go away, non-CJ Owner!!!

Jokes.. well, maybe you might get some nice Federals next...!

Next ones...I might try....

BTW, those UHP Federals, shown at bottom, would only be $1100 for a set (fresh production, not grey import, from KMart), and they would be similar to Dunlop for quality.

Federal’s extremely popular UHP (ultra high performance) street tyre, the 595 continues to prove itself as one of the best street tyres available for today’s modern high performance cars.

Designed for excellent dry traction and crisp steering response while maintaining reliable all-weather traction and handling.

Advanced tread compounds for superior grip and durable wear.
Unique shoulder tread block design for enhanced lateral grip and predictable handling.
The tyre of choice for Drift Racers world wide for speed, control and reliability.

Ooo they're purdy Tryg! I like that pattern, was looking at some in the shop but they said they wouldn't fit my tyre.

I am so far impressed with em, it's a whole new world with these tyres after the last ones...

But the Federal's sound alike to the Dunlops in their specs, though I guess Dunlop is a bit more well known so a bit more pricey(?)

wider blocks = noisier

Those Federal FD2 Formoza Luxury tyres are called Silent Tyres... they are a massive improvement from the Yokohama Advans (which retail for $360 per :( )

Okay, they're not the most aggressive directional tyre, Federal even make a more sticky tyre, the 595RS-R

Or...a premium Street version, the 595RPM
