Brake Upgrades

Ok so what exactly am I measuring? Not the distance between the wheel studs studs on the caliper themselves?

fair enough... thought Magnas were 5 stud... my mistake.

They are 5 stud, the biggest common/cheap brake upgrade for 4 stud is EVO3 276mm like what Res has, then there's 256mm GSR/Proton, and he already has those.

So his options are, either EVO or Magna or CJ, both Magna and CJ are 5 stud, but Evos are relatively expensive and less common.

I would take a 5-stud any day.. there are tons of good wheels for 5-stud... I am sure you could sell your 4-stud wheels and trade up...

Although, twin-pots at 276mm are hard to come by.. and bigger???..only the RA and the V6 Outlander have them in 130mm mountings and larger.

I am also searching for some larger RA fronts...

The single CJ 276mm fronts should help achieve better braking for you. And, easily had for $100-$150.

For your consideration.

Ok tron you've got my completely lost. So the calipers off a magna or CJ will fit on 276mm drilled rotors?

You could definitely use 276mm CJ rotors, drilled for four studs, if you use the corresponding caliper..

Just my 2c

Correct, the rotors have a slightly different offset (by half a millimeter or so) which is compensated by using a CJ caliper.

You'd be able to find near-new wrecks also, which would preclude the need to rebuild the calipers also.

The rotors should be in near-new perfect condition off a CJ also...

Rather than rebuild some really old gear, this might be worth some investigation, unless you can get twin-pot Magna Ralliart calipers/rotors.. then definitely worth it!

Are the CJ's twin pots? Because not only is this upgrade to replace my current cruddy brakes, it's to secure an engineering cert in the future. So the CJ's would def be bigger wouldn't they.

I'll give magnawreck a call in the morning see what they can produce or if they know somewhere that will.

Only RA, which are bigger than 276mm, are twin pot....

CJ ES/Active/SX/VR are 276mm. The VRX are slightly larger, but are only single pot too.

And Tryg has first dibs on RA brakes.

Ok, well I'm only working for 6hours tomorrow, leaving my couple hours in the morning and in the afternoon while its light to measure my bolts. Thanks guys. Might end up sending Henry a PM to see what he can do for what price (unless he replies here before I get around to it).

Also, there would be no point going 4 pot would there?

Sure, if money is raining from the heavens sure...

If I cannot find RA brakes cheap, I will be buying 8-pot 330mm KSport-made rotors and calipers, imported from Switzerland... They cost $1450.

Is that for all 4 corners? That's a lot of money, I'd rather buy coilovers :p

Just to beat Tryg to the K-Sports, hes been eying them off for ages! :D

Ok so 2 pot should be sufficient to get a cert for a turbo... coolios.

What?! For four corners.. noooo! Just for fronts!

And.. that is way cheap, actually. 330mm 8-pots, that is a massive upgrade from anything on Lancers, other than EVOs.

Coilovers?! Sure, but I like to stick to legal upgrades. Coilovers wont help you get your turbo legitimised, it needs better brakes.. hey!

Yeah I am getting brakes, just not 1.4k for 2...

It depends, I may just leave the stock suspension in once I get cert, otherwise I might try and pull the suspension off an evo 8 or something, or... just risk the coils.

2pot will be WAY more than enuf for an NA lancer, and even with turbo, put some good pads in and u will still have plenty of brake power
