Brake Upgrades

I'm in dire need of new brakes, but I'm going to be honest, I don't know a lot about brakes like pots, pads, hubs, sizes, etc.

So I was wondering what would I be looking at to upgrade to bigger brakes, and what would any other mitsu larger brakes fit on my car? (When I say brakes I mean the whole assembly)

Also what is required in a rear disk conversion, I'll google it, but I'm gonna ask anyway if someone has already done it here.

Good question... I know I have disk fronts and drums rears, thats it. :(

Pretty sure they gave the later CH's rear discs when they changed the stud pattern. It say grab all four hubs and master cylinder of a CH that has discs all round. See what sizes they come in, maybe upgrade to 276mm Magna twin spots in the front and you wont need to get redrilled rotors as you now have 5x114.

skip, you dont wanna do a rear disc converion... trust me, its a massive pain in the arse compared to front upgrade only
doesnt give u much extra brake power either and handbrake is a bit worse

front brakes upgrade would be a win, i'd go the twin pots, if your going to make an upgrade might aswell take it to a much better level

Could you elaborate Res? Is the pain in the ass running the handbrake cable under the carpet?? From what I've heard its pretty easy if you take the arms and hubs etc all in one piece you just bolt up, connect brake line, and run the handbrake cable and your set.

yeh, well thats it, but when u get to actually doing it, then tell me its easy :p
its just a pain to run the cables under the car, then realising that at the handbrake lever they arnt level so one side pulls more than the other... then redo, and redo...
its not worth the performance gain, but it does look nice once finished

ahh fair enough, did you get the whole trailing arms? or did you have to swap each bit over individually? as I can see how that would be a pain in the ass.

Sadly, i dont think Ill ever get to do a Rear disc conversion, at least on the wagon as its longer, you need handbrake cables to suit the wagon. And there was no Proton equivalent or GSR equivalent. At least not in Aust. I can order Libero cables from Armanaya.com or whatever the side is, but it costs a fortune.

Its the one thing i want to do so bad, and i cant. :(

sedan hand brake lines may fit, matty says they are super long
i got mine in pieces, but regarless of that it will still be a pain

you could always get some lines made, im sure if they can make aftermarket brake fluid lines they can make long hand brake cable lines, might cost a bit

Yer, i dunno, If i could find a set of sedan cables I would see how they fit on the wagon at the wreckers. As I dont have a cable, i dont know how long its meant to be hahaha. I thought about custom handbrake cables, but i dont know how long they are meant to be haha, ill wait till i see someone parting out a libero on a forum or something. get the cables from that. until then ill be working on my front brakes and DTB haha.

Ok then so rear conversion is out of the question then, thanks :)

Since I have the 4 stud pattern, and have just ordered rims for the 4 Stud pattern, I wouldn't be looking at doing a hub conversion etc.

Would I be better off just buying brand new bigger disks and twin pots then trying to find a pair off another car?

This doesnt make sense to me, so forgive me if Im on a different path.

Buying bigger discs

Buying twin pots rather than finding brakes off a different car. :?

I dont think the CH came out with twin pots, so you will have to look for another cars brakes, other wise you will just be looking at your own.

Im guessing you have the 256x24mm Rotors same as the CG's and GSR's???? As the only listing for CH is the VRX with 5 stud.

So measure your bolt spacing on your calipers, if its 130mm then EVO twin pots will bolt up, so will TR/TS KR/KS magna/Verada 276mm twin/single pots. if its 160mm then 276mm TE/TF magna single/double pots, and i think the Evo Brembos will fit.

Or you could just get the 4/6/8 pot K-sports

check ur caliper mount bolt distance... if 130mm then go with 276mm twin pots from evo3/magna
if the distance is 160 (which i doubt) then buy johns evo4 brakes if he'll sell em to ya :p

if u need parts and dont wanna find them yourself talk to henry, he can work out a twin pot package for ya, and have it all bolt on with new rotors drilled to your stud pattern

if he has 4-stud, what is the point buying Magna rotors.. weren't they a 114.3 x 5?

They are bigger than whats offered in 4 stud pattern, and easy/cheap to come by.

Ok so what exactly am I measuring? Not the distance between the wheel studs studs on the caliper themselves?

the bolts that bolt the caliper onto the hub, measure the distance between them, should be 130mm
