Okay parts are officially sourced for the repairs of my ute now just have to buy my spray painter a Compressor since his ours died and that is what he used.

So i am just wondering on advice.

What Brand Compressor should i be getting, compacity, etc.

as much information is appreciated thank you

atleast 2 piston, more is better, not sure on capacity tho

Whats your budget? do you only want to use a spray gun?

Work out the flow required for whatever it is you ever want to do.

Then double it.

I wouldnt get anything under a 50L tank.

Nothing worse than having to wait for pressure to build up again.
Go as big as your budget allows you to. Also make sure you get one that you can actually power with your electrical supply (IE dont get a 415V 3Phase if you dont have it)

And most decent air compressors are greater than 10A. If your semi dodgy, you can just wire a 10A plug on and hope it doesnt trip. Otherwise you will need a sparky to come run some more power for you.

Belt driven are fine, they can get a bit noisey, but most are belt driven. Unless you want to go to a screw type aircompressor, but they are pretty much all 3Phase, and start off at like $3000

it will just be from a normal power point the old one was like 100 hundred years old (was dads old one) lol and it had a 120L tank and twin piston engine it was great.

and budget will probs be like $500.

just want to know like what stuff costs. he only paints my cars so far painted my ute his family cars and will be painting dad FB in a bit

Yep, if you want one on a strict budget, can always get a super cheap one, but you'll just be more limited. also its better to get a smaller one with a larger tank. than a big one with a small tank. As a larger tank will keep it from turning on and off frequently. This reduces there lifestyle quite a bit.

the tank underneath the aircompressor. it looks like a big cylinder. if you get one with a small tank, like less than 50L it will drain very quickly and your aircompressor will have to start and stop lots. if you get a large one. then your aircompressor will run longer to fill it, but will then take longer to drain so its not as harsh on the motor etc.

You can get a belt driven compresser with a 50L+ tank for around the 500 mark.

It will do the job fine, your not a professional spray painter and dont need to spend 2-3k.

I have a 45L tank, and does everything I want it to... I got it from SCA for 250, i think. I cant remember.

all I want to say is be careful of junky compressors with cast fittings, they easily break off. Buy something with a bit more quality, that has solid brass fittings.

Anything from SCA will be Chinese with cast fittings... ugh!

But agree with above, belt drive, 50ltr collector and twin piston, if you're in a position to afford it (is decent).

theres always the option of rigging up another tank so you can just let the pressure build up and shoot away. When I finally find myself a viable project I'll be doing this since my old compressor has started smoking and overheating.

if you start making bigger collectors, think about leaving them somewhere other than your garage! OH+S, and all that!

Ok I can probably help here. Wanting a good compressor for under $500 is the hard part.

Most cheap compressors are piston. The best compressors are screw compressors. Piston compressors are less efficient and will get oil in the air.

The best set up is a compressor then receiver (tank, lol) and then dryer.

The receiver should have automatic and manual drains to get rid of water,

Fitting a suitable dryer with inlet and outlet filters will ensure the best possible quality air.

You can fit a hose from your receiver that removes moisture as well if you dont have a dryer.

Fitting filter/regulators before spraying and breathing air also is a good idea.
