DIY: Key Ring Illumination

You can get a non OEM delay relay, which has to be a normally OPEN relay (as I've said in DIY, not normally closed)
Some of these relays I think it's possible to adjust the timing on them somehow but I don't know, I just got an OEM one.

i've read online and found out you can time a relay but it has to be TDR which is a Time Delay Relay. A normally open 4 pin relay like the ones they sell on SuperCheapAuto cant be timed i think. I can't be sure until i get one and mess around with it. I wonder why aussie ebay doesnt sell MB818524

Both Jazza and I got our relays from UK ebay, its not a big deal, i think the shipping fee is $8 or 8GPB. and it will work like OEM, because it is OEM.

jay car sell a universal time delay kit for the interior light,
http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=KC5392

Im going to use it for both my dome light and my ignition light.
question though, where do we get the ignition ring from?

The ring or the light.

The clear rings you can pick up randomly at the wreckers, some cars have them some dont.

The lights are more or less the same, but with less frequency. I have a light spare if your keen. I may have a ring, ill ahve to check tho.

But first, check if you car has a clear ring, if it does you only need the light. If it has a black ring, you need a clear one and a light.

Hmm I feel like giving it a try but i'll hafta do more research before I dare to attempt using the interior light delay. Im not sure if its a relay.

If you want a picture of the wiring diagram for the interior roof light i can take a picture from my gregorys manual if you'd like. It's for a CE.

All you'd need to do is cut the wire that gives power to the roof light and make it go thru the relay. I think I might do this one day if I have any time.

Nope, just pulled out the old ring with force and scissors.
To get the new ring on, you'll have to cut a slit in the hole where the screw is meant to go in, so you can just slide it around the screw, if you know what I mean?

Yeah i know what you mean haha i might attempt to take the steering wheel off. Cos i hate ripping/ forcefully taking things off

Ok well if you cut the plastic the right way you won't need force. Or if you have some fancy little right angle screw driver that could work. Taking the steering wheel requires too much effort for me lol

yea it's just a t5 socket so put whatever globe you like into it.

I had mine as orange then changed to white led, but my cluster is now orange so changed back to match.

planning on using the same setup for the galant.. VR4's already have this from the factory, what I'll do is add one or 2 for the parlights and tail lights.. that way it turns on or when lock/unlock the car..

just to bump this;

Will the key ring light still work if you turn the dome light off in the car?
