DIY: Key Ring Illumination

I think you can get generic (normally open) relays where you can program the delay timer in them. You only need a 4 pin one.

legend, thanks

I've got the clear ring, it doesnt light up and never has since i got the car second hand. thinking the default one has burnt out or something along those lines if there even was a stock one. I'm getting a whole bunch of blue LED T5's for my dash lights and im just wondering if its simple as just putting the globe in the keyring?

I need to take my steering wheel off to realign it anyway and put some grease in it as i failed the first time when changing it to an after market wheel and thought i might as well do the key ring light thing. just curious i think it would look sweet XD

If your steering wheel is off its not the steering wheel that needs adjusting, you need a wheel alignment

you can put the steering wheel on like 1-2 splines offcenter without noticing till u drive it, doesnt neccesarrily mean u need wheel align, wheel align fixes camber/toe/caster etc not so much to center your steering wheel

no, lancers may have a clear ring but they dont have a light in them. you need to wire up a light yourself as shown in the DIY.

I do infact need a wheel alignment as i changed my shocks/springs last week (its getting done today) but yes when i first changed over my steering wheel i had no reference points so im about 5 or so spines off as my wheels were not straight to begin with due to having to turn the wheel to get the nut off. ill be making reference points when changing them over and fixing the yellow electrical tape as it is also off centre haha.

Could youplease post the eeBay items you used for the t5 plug in and the clear ring?
search "t5 socket" in ebay. theres heaps. any should do.
for the clear ring you need to source one out of another lancer that has a clear ring. usually glxi's have them most often

Know if you can use a T10 socket? drill the hole larger to fit one? I've got one spare from when i did my dash cluster, the t5 led lights i got are faulty sometimes and i've had to replace two of them in about a week (they were dirt cheap so i cant complain too much) I just dont want to have to take my steering wheel off all the time to fix the light if i use the cheap t5 lights i got, the t10 ones are much more durable and were a lot more expensive and brighter :D

Dont think so. The key ring plastic surround is pre drilled to fit t5s and theres not alot of space left to dril one to fit the t10s.

Kinga i have both clear key ring and t5 socket. If u r interrsted shoot me a pm.

Hmm i guess there is really only one way to find out, going to take it apart have a look and wire it all up.

i had it all working for about 15 mins but now the light wont turn off, does that mean my relay has died?
