DIY: Key Ring Illumination

You've wired it wrong then. Did u make sure the door open/close wired sensor is connected to pin 86? Are u using factory mitsubishi relay or the AM normally open relay?

i think its the power/switch side pole on the relay is the wrong way around lol

Cool mod, just got a ring light from an M21 and want to use it.

It fits but now I just need a time delay relay and find the right wires to use, pity it doesn't just plug in.

I know you can get them from the UK but has anyone had luck getting them locally, not including the JayCar kit?

lancer 1991 go into jaycar and ask for a small capacitor and wire that inline with the relays on position one the circuit is charged the cap will fill and once the circuit is closed the cap will hold the charge a short time keeping the relay open once the cap runs out of charge the relay closes

Hundreds of cars have time delay relays. Its up to you to if you want to stick with a mitsubishi one though (mitsu as an electronics company makes relays for most cars anyway).

Wouldn't it just be easier to grab the one off the proton......?
Thought of that last night but we already took out the wiring harness out including the internal fuse box, I'll need to get on to Rigby who has it now...

No luck with the relay, spent the morning trying to find one at a good price.

The closest I cam was a built it yourself kit from JayCar for $20, we'll call that plan B.
Tried a wrecker without luck but will go back when I have more time.
There is one on eBay from the UK but they don't ship here.

They will ship if you ask them. That's the exact seller I bought mine from. Just ask if they'll ship to you and how much it'll be, after you buy it just wait for him to add shipping on the price before you pay.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to get into installing it on the weekend, along with power windows/mirrors and not screw up my central locking.
So for now I'll just wire them to the doors and put in a relay later when it arrives.

Okay got the relay, just one question.

The wiring diagram in the first post, 87/30 are they on the side with the writing?

Just wondering, is it safe to add foot well lights to the relay?

I'd like to run some LEDs in my foot well that come on when the light is on but go out a short time after the door is closed.

thats actually a really nifty idea, give it a bit more of a euro feel :p
it wouldnt be too hard to either use the existing relay or just add one in!
i think i found my new weekend mod

Yep. Just add your neons to the output if the relay. Neons pull fukc all current.

Even the door lights would be sick. They are on ebay.
