Coilovers

Find evo 10 bilstiens and some swift sport progressive rate springs. That combo will out handle most other cars with 2k worth of coilovers. As also mentioned braces work a charm, front strut and rear strut to begin with will help out more.

Those 2 threads suggests the RA and Evo X have different mounting of the struts.... Can you confirm that you have personally seen this and where we can get more info???

Also I havent really followed the RA suspension stuff but is anyone actually making aftermarket shocks for them? Because I know with the N/A CJ Lancers no-one in Aust has yet located a manufacture that produces anything other than the KYB stockies...

My personal experience with stock struts and king springs was that even though they might be legal they rode like rubbish and if anything I would say that the coilovers keep the car under much better control when dealing with bumps in the middle of corners. Also on the BC Racing coilovers softest dampening setting they ride pretty much with the same quality of stock VRX suspension (which i imagine is similar to the RA)

I must say I have no idea then what coilovers must feel like.. they must be like riding on a cloud..because my King Springs on new KYB for GTS/VRX, rides very well.

Saying they're rubbish is fairly unkind. My car outhandles a lot of others that I cruise with... There are a lot of junk coilovers too.. haven't seen too many Ohlins or Tein equipped cars on forums..

hmmm, maybe its that I accept less or that I have the additional suspension components to make it good enough.. who knows.

But, my car tracks true, some have trouble keeping up and I think it rides okay..

I do know what good suspension feels like, my Ducati and Moto Guzzi both have Ohlins gear.. fairly pricey, but I concede that you all have better stuff.

But, if you did choose to buy decent coilovers, you would then have pre-load, rebound and compression selections, to very finely tune your suspension...rather than for example, me, who accepts the warts-and-all feel of just lowered springs on OEM VRX struts/shocks...

I do agree with big sways and some chassis strengthening.. good move.

Yeh i think id be one of those who accept the feel of lowered springs.. lol.. i dont really want to go overboard at the moment and i dont think i will but if by chance sometime in the future i do then i will just have to upgrade again lol...

For a ralliart why not go for some decent lowering springs like H&R's or something and some Koni shocks. It's a good car, if you want to lower it you're probably best off getting some decent gear. King Springs will certainly do the job, but they are a budget spring.

Skeptical, because they're made in Australia, using Australian steel.. it's a spring, not the space shuttle...

Tein are made in Taiwan, under licence, and people rep them... I like Tein, but I wont rubbish any brand.

Maybe we could help out and arrange a few cars, to demonstrate.

More than happy to demonstrate BC Coilovers to anyone that attends a NSW meet I go to...

Ian, checking Koni's site they don't even look to make them for an Evo X yet alone a Ralliart... that is the problem, bar the Evo X suspension/strut support for the NA Lancer and Ralliart has been very poor...

hhmm well ive actually heard that king springs arent that good but then again ive never felt the ride so i cant talk... pedders did well in my toyota echo :p lol but im looking at something a litttle pricier for the RA.. im not going to hold back on getting something decent rather than something cheap that will just do the job... so from what ive noticed people are pretty keen on tein koni and bc coilovers..

Well, not saying Tein, Lovells, HKS, Buddy Club or others are not better than Kings.. but when I bought mine, a lot of those others were not available...

I just don't feel a big difference between spring brands. I have had Lovells, Pedders and Kings in many cars.. they all work fine for normal road driving...

No one on here has big-dollar race suspension (unless anyone knows of a Ohlins-equipped car, I missed) and all the coilovers most have are made in China or Taiwan.. so I am still not going to bow down and be all agog with their masterful stroke.. because handling is more than just suspension.

For daily driving, either coilover or springs will work.. if you are going to track it, then spend $5-$7k, because anything else is a compromise. My racebike suspension is worth about that.. on a bike.

Sorry Ryan i cant comment on if they will fit or not i was just going off evo 789 because ive seen evo shocks retrofitted into a normal lancer before. I think they used the evo 9 bilstiens in a ce? not really sure long time ago now...

Best bet would to speak to wholesale suspension in Sydney and/or meek automotive... I know of a bloke that was the r&d vehicle for the sports wagon but not sure about the sedans... There is a thread somewhere on the evo oz forum, it was a black ralliart sports wagon

Hmm, that's a bit surprising koni haven't developed one yet. Reason I recommended H&R springs is they have a great reputation for quality, it's a big pic by a lot of the euro guys with BMW's, VW's, Audi's etc. You could go Eibach as well, but from what I heard from the VW guys when I had my golf most preferred the H&R's over them. Check out this site, I got a set of wheels from them and their shipping rates are very good. They sell both the Eibachs and H&R springs: http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/...del=Lancer&autoYear=2009&autoModClar=Ralliart

Reading the previous comments, you want suspension for daily driving and dont wanna overpay, so in terms of suspension and handling improvements, like tryg get thicker swarybars, front and back strut braces to start, that will make the car rigid for cornering.

Since you want to change suspension for looks i.e. height, just change the springs to king lows or superlows. Lows wont be as stiff and will be bearable on bumps whereas superlows will make the car sleek with the sacrifice of being stiff and bumpy on poorly paved roads, and as everyone else said, as long as the lowest point of your car is above 100mm this will be a legal modification and not requiring engineering certs like coilovers would

No issues with the cornering ability, that was greatly improved - so other suspension components are irrelevant considering the issue was to do with driving in a straight line, on a straight road.

you must be very unfortunate Dave, mine handles really well and others have been impressed with it's quality on the road... Try Tein or T1R.. maybe you will have better luck there. Mine is fine, and with the other enhancements, I would say tight.

Really, the only thing now poor with the car is the braking-ability... which I hope the RA front calipers, better pads, braided lines and DBA 4000 rotors may assist with.
