Hey just wanted to know what the best coilovers are for my ralliart. Im not going to extremes with my mods so wont need anything too amazing but i do want to do abit of work to it so id like to upgrade. Any suggestions??

Ive never heard anything bad about BC Racing
-Very good value for money, cost-effective (around $1199~ compared to brand-name $1600+), cheap and easy to rebuild, and decent for track use

I cant vouch for other brands though

then why do you want coilovers exactly? surely you could get some nice tein springs and some bilsteins for around the same money

(honest question btw)

this

and keep in mind you can be defected if on coils and also might run into problems with your insurance company if you need to claim.

ok so this is where i need the help... i was told by afew people that its best to get coilovers before i do anything.. (dont know why) but i wanted to slowly but surely do the exhaust fmic ecu intake and maybe afew other things... am i best just to do those n not worry about coilovers n just get some better suspension???

I can't be bothered finding it, but I think for roughly the same price you can do what Tryg has done with his bars, braced it all, lowered on springs (+shocks?) and he says it handles pretty good... And I'd think you'd get the same result if you weren't looking for massive amounts of lowness...

Also coilovers aren't legal, yes in cases they've been engineered or whatever (think it's been brought up in a lot of coilover threads), but I wouldn't bother engineering them on you're car since you can get a good if not better result on your car from strut bars, lowering springs, and more bracing... for less then coilovers in some cases, you may not get every bar possible, but you'll at least get springs, front and rear strut, and rear/front sway.

I believe it was you that didn't want to void their guarantee yes? If you crash you're car, or something goes wrong with the suspension or the suspension causes damage, then you're not insured/covered, and might void all mitsu things.

I'm not saying don't get coilovers, but I won't say yes get them, sort of needs more thought on legality side of things, the same results can be achieve on both legal and illegal sides (for daily use, ignore extreme track use)

/2c :)

yeh i didnt want to void warranty but to be honest im over it... i might as well jsut leave it the way it is and not mess with anything if im gonna do that... why r coilovers illegal?

What do you want to achieve?

1 - comfort + slightly lower ride so it doesn't look like a 4WD
2 - low, low and more low
3 - track setup
4 - adjustable height and ride

Don't get sucked into the "someone else has this, and they said it's good so I am going to get it too" mentality.

Find evo 10 bilstiens and some swift sport progressive rate springs. That combo will out handle most other cars with 2k worth of coilovers. As also mentioned braces work a charm, front strut and rear strut to begin with will help out more.

tecnnically, yes, adjustable coilovers are illegal.

also, your bc/ksport coilovers are the bottom of the range adjustable coilovers. a set of DMS 50mm coilovers will set you back about 1k per corner

i hav ksports, my mate (naughtika on here actually) has bilsteins / teins on his galant, the ride is just as stiff but better dampning then mine, he just cant adjust his ride height.

the only reason i went coilovers is for wheel fitment and height selection.

if you can find a set of springs that offer the right amount of drop (like tein/espilar/rsr/tanabe/cusco) and combine them with some bilsteins or equivalent shocks, you hav the best suspension out...keep in mind the bilsteins will be around $1200ish, but its a lot of bang for buck.

and you culd always get a sleeve kit from groundcontrol in america down the line

Ok. I want a lower ride. Better handling and in the future I want exhaust intake ecu remap and if I get bored of that maybe something else. So sway bars and braces are looking good to me. I'm not having a track car so coilovers are out tge door ;)

simply because they havn't passed ADR approval if I'm not mistaken

I'm not sure. I don't know if I would actually use it. Lol. Let's just say I get lazy and never adjust it. Then it would be a waste right?

But, if you did choose to buy decent coilovers, you would then have pre-load, rebound and compression selections, to very finely tune your suspension...rather than for example, me, who accepts the warts-and-all feel of just lowered springs on OEM VRX struts/shocks...

I do agree with big sways and some chassis strengthening.. good move.

Go springs + new shocks.

Look around and see what other springs people have gone with in the Ralliart.

Its a matter of taste, budget and need...

I can say, that for everyday and spirited driving, those lowered springs and sways are enough to keep even some coilover-equipped cars in check. As for price, they come in at well under a quarter of the cost. They do not have the finesse of being able to raise, lower, pre-load, define compression or rebound...but they work.

Even guys running coilovers need sways.. so I do with lesser suspension, but have added the very best chassis improvements and sways I could get locally.

I will even have Ralliart front brakes with DBA rotors, very soon! Looking forward to stopping power that you already enjoy!

Good luck with your build.

coilvers arent illegal.
Ive had many cars ive built had engineering certs done on them including my own, all legit as well.

thanks for the info, but none that I know of have complied with ADR, which stipulates that suspension cannot be lowered beyond the 100mm minimum, here in QLD at least.

If you know of better advice, please tell Queensland Transport, because I have spoken with a Technical Director, who assures me they know of none that have passed ADR, at this stage. Fine for track use, of course. Same for carbon fibre bonnets, variable flow exhausts, tinted front screens and airbags. I think it would be easier to get fairies and goblins recognised by QLD transport, before the aforementioned products...

So, if you can get the plate.. TOPS, until they meet QLD Government approvals for street use, I will stay away.

my 2c

if it were me:

-find some springs that offer a good drop, progressive rate type thing
-bilstein/dms/koni/ohlins/ikea formula/silkroad shocks. (most of these will be dampner and rebound adjustment with machined slots so you can choose 3 different heights before they're put on the car)
-new thick swaybars front and rear with new bushes
-front strut bar

then if you think you need more, go for the rest. although if isnt triangulated...it wont do much
