what do u want a DIY on?

I think a useful DIY would be how to fit various AM gauges and best locations for the best connection points - Air fuel - Oil temp - Oil pressure - Boost gauge... even I stumble around with this...

clutch is easy I have just done three of them... I do not know if I have any pics of one tho,

i know like me alot of people on here are pretty broke most of the time and labour is a beach
so diying is a great way to save some money and get some experience

I think this is an interesting thread I DIY a lot of components for myself for my own race car and a few other track cars
mainly older stuff
apart from a engine rebuild I have to do for my 1979 sigma IPRA track car, my new project I plan on is a CC lancer coupe with a 4G61T to run in the super sprint series here in Vic

I already have the engine and that will be the start of the project, I have still got to pick up a shell but the body work and roll cage are the quick bits to do

anyway if anyones interested I'll post up from time to time on progress

I took a few pics of the last flywheel I made and I thought I would run you through the job ( this fly wheel was going on a VR4 turbo thing into a RWD )
as I have to make a flywheel for a mates track car a CE lancer
got me thinking it maybe a good post to see how a one off billit flywheel is done and yes its done at home in the shed I have a few tools
at home

first thumb - a basic chunk of 4140 steel with a new ring gear
not that interesting but it what I start with

again not that interesting but again the start of the machining

this thumb is starting to look like a flywheel - with the counter bore for the crank mounting
and the ring gear mounts machined ready to turn around and machine the front face

front face machined with the face counter bored and tapered for the bolt heads
the outside dia is also finished - time to turn it to the back again

material is carved out of the back to reduce weight - I weighed it at this stage and it went
4.75 Kg ( 10 1/2 pound ) of cause there is another 1 Kg in the ring gear ( 2.2 pound ) still to be fitted

next part of the job is on the mill - so as you can see I run a cutter from the outside edge to where the fiction plate surface finishes these 12 cuts remove about .7 Kg ( 1 1/2 pound )
from the out side edge

the last jobs to do are drill and tap to bolt up the presure plate with of cause the dowels
fit the ring gear and have it balanced

after milling the outside edge the flywheel is set up on a rotary table and drilled and tapped for the presure plate bolts and drilled for the dowels

finished flywheel back from the balancers

being fully machined there is not a lot of out of balance 3 small holes around edge

total weight 5.06 Kg ( 11.14 Lbs ) that include the presure plate bolts
and with the weight removed from the outter edge they even feel like they are lighter
to drive

by the way my sigma runs a lighter flywheel its a bit over 4 Kg and runs a 7 1/4" tilton race clutch they are only 2 1/2 Kg

I love DIY

EVO 3 front Brakes installed onto a ce
also dash removal would be killa i wanna paint mine silver
- undo calliper brake hose from hardline
- unbolt calliper (2 bolts behind)
- remove disc
- put on new disc
- bolt on new calliper
- connect brake line
- bleed brakes
Done?
Haha its so easy man.

I'm going to be 100% honest.
Dash, may seem daunting, but holy cow it is EASY. Don't even need to remove steering wheel.
Find bolts hidden behind panels, disconnect all wires and feed em out the back of the dash, then pull dash out.

Get a peice of cardboard and draw a rough pic of the dash. When you take a bolt or screw out poke a hole in the cardboard where you got the bolt from. Then when you put the dash back in you know where and what bolt to use

stuff that put it back in then look at the 23 bolts in your hand and say "yeah... weight reduction"
