Upgrade exhaust system CC Coupe 1.8

2" is the biggest id go man unless your running cams, intake and other s***.. stock car with a 2.25" will lag a bit. as mikey said tip doesnt matter, but any bigger than 3-3.5" will also lag a bit
That's the answer I was after, the only other engine mod I'm likely to do any time soon is replace the filter with a panel K&N, so keep the standard airbox.

also the increase in pipe size vs flow/volume is not linear.

going from 1.75 to 2.5 is about double the original exhaust area a 104% increase in size. going from 1.75" to 2" is a 30% increase and going 2.25" is a 63% in cross sectional area which adds up to alot of extra volume as-well

here is a comparison of pipe sizes and the area inside them

I wouldn't pay $300+ to upgrade my exhaust by o.25 inches. What a waste. You have a 1.8l, 2.25 is optimal. 2.5 is too much, 2 is a waste. 2.25 doesnt mean louder, you can tell them you dont want it too loud, its that simple. They'll just use a different muffler or tip.

I know most of the sound will come from the muffler, I just don't want any loss of power at low RPMs as I'm not planning on doing bigger mods at this point and by the time you talk serious mods $300 for a bigger system later is a small price to pay (again).

What I need to do before any upgrade is take some video and then go back to the same location (at the same time) and do it again to see/hear any difference.

Anyone tried using the suction cap type camera mounts to the exterior of their car to video the exhaust when driving?

You wont lose power from 2.25 at low rpm with a stock engine. You will at 2.5 though.

I wouldnt trust a suction cup to hold anything on the outside of a car.

I'll take that under advisement ;)

The suction mount I have is really good, not the cheapo ones you get with your GPS. That said I plan to wrap the camera in foam or bubble wrap and tie a line from it to the boot spoiler so if it does come off it will dangle their, should make a good video.

Going for just the 2", should be on Monday after my service.

Set to do the video Sunday, working on a gate tomorrow.

You said working on the gate tomorrow, not a wastegate I take it. Everyone prob "should" have one but not many have a need for one tbh

No I'm helping dad rebuild a side gate to the back yard, picked up some nice metal frames at the tip last week.
Hung them today and will finish the job tomorrow.

Also might paint something under my bonnet tomorrow.

Okay I guess I better end this thread.

I went for the 2" system.
Got the new cat-back, cost about $338, including this tip.

Also had the CAT replaced when it was found in a bad way inside, cost an extra $190.

So now I have 2" running from in front of my Car back to the tip.

Sound before.

And after.

Things I've found,
- It feels like it has more pick up and want to rev harder, this might hurt my fuel economy.
- At idle it's almost silent from inside the car, have to check the taco to see if I've stalled.

ive got a 95 cc 1.5L 2 door coupe, can any one tell me where i can buy online a catback system for it?
thanx

Better off getting it done at an exhaust shop, a complete system may not fit your car precisely or give you the desired outcome. 2-2.25" is good for 1.8L, 2" for 1.5L, assuming you aren't doing many engine mods. Then either press or mandrel bent (again depending on future mods) and then mild or stainless steel.

thanks for the replies peeps, sorry i never responded earlier, just got back outta jail, haha nah jokes just been here there every where for a bit,
yeah i scored set of extractors for it, used for $150, and n exhaust shop that will do a 2" straight through for no more than $500 depending on time spent!!!

i have been looking at bodykits on carmate.com can any one confirm these guys are as good as they say they are?
