Upgrade exhaust system CC Coupe 1.8

I'm looking at upgrade options for my Lancer and was considering new exhaust system to make it sound better.

What cost would I be looking at?

I can probably do the install as I once replaced the engine in a 76 Celica.

2.25" is the optimal size for a 1.8l lancer, and you're looking at about $300 for a cat-back system full installed, add more for stainless steel and mandrel bends. Wouldn't bother installing it yourself, quicker and easier just to get a shop to do it, not worth the hassle.

$300 sound good.

Now hate to sound like a 18yo kid but will it sound better than the original system?

and what does the $300 cover, is that the whole system from the block or just the parts behind the rear axle?

also I haven't priced it yet but how much would an original system cost, the Lancer is 20yo and the CAT could be near needing replacing.

ETA - I get it now cat back is from the catalytic converter.

The $300 covers parts and labour for a cat-back system, as in the piping from the cat and back, including muffler (you can supply your own muffler or tip if you want). It will make the car sound a lot deeper and give off a different sound depending on your muffler/tip. A cannon will make a deep, loud, wet fart sound, a single tip will sound pretty good, dual tip will sound like a single tip except with a less tin-like sound. Anything will sound better than the stock system though. Not sure how much original systems would cost since they would all be second hand. Could find one for free, could find one for $100, depends on the seller.

Like I said not checked with Mitsubishi but I thought they would still supply parts are the car is not that old. But I've been told for things like this it can cost more for the original than a better after market part.

I'll have to see if there are any YouTube clips to here the sound difference.

You can still get many genuine parts but they are certainly not cheap $20 for a couple of orings.

A good sports muffler will be nice and deep and five an awesome exhaust note. I wish I kept mine that system rocked. Set off car alarms

I don't want it too loud or a police magnet, just a nicer sound.
Right now its pretty good for a stock system, maybe it's a sign the cat or other parts are deteriorating and need attention?

How long should the average exhaust system last?

FYI just added a pic in my profile of my Lancer. Its pretty my stock standard apart from some cosmetic changes like the driving lights, side skirts and a spoiler. I also just replaced the Kenwood head unit and speakers, it's now on it's 3rd system. now I have Bluetooth and a iPhone connection built in!

Most recently I have the air-con compressor replaced and the roof resprayed and late last year the CV joints work done and I got now tires about a year ago.

I did a price check at a local muffler specialist today and was told it costs about the same to get a standard (but non genuine aka not from Mitsubishi) muffler as it does a customized cat-back with 2" outlet. Both around the $300 mark.

This was from The Mufflermen on the Sunshine Coast, they have a website on their business card but it won't open for me http://www.themufflermen.com.au

What size outlet/tip is best for a 1.8 CC?

3 sound about right.

I've seen some over the top ones that were huge and are probably just compensating for something ;)

Bringing this thread back to life...

Tax is done, should have the refund in a few weeks. Then time to order my new cat-back.

But I'm getting conflicting info, most here say go for the 2.25" but the muffler places I've spoke to said that will lead to a loss of power at low RPMs. Right now I'm looking at the 2" with twin or oval tip.

Also the prices I've been quoted are closer to $400.

2"-2.25" is perfect on 1.5L, personally i wouldnt go over 2.5" on 1.8L.

If youre after sound, get like a 2.25 or 2.5" rear muffler, and whatever tip you want, because realistically it wont do a lot at all.

I was quoted 650 with a highflow cat and sports muffler mandrel bent. Im sure u can find one at a btr price.

So doing the math the standard system is 1.75" a 2" is about 25% more size. 2.25" is about 50% bigger than the standard pipe.

Yes I want some sound, but not too much.

I was told cost wise there is next to no difference between the 2" and the 2.25".

2" is the biggest id go man unless your running cams, intake and other *poo*.. stock car with a 2.25" will lag a bit. as mikey said tip doesnt matter, but any bigger than 3-3.5" will also lag a bit

Ok just wanna hijack this thread and ask is there a significant performance difference between a 200cpis hi flowcat ckmpared to a 300cpis?
