Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ Thread

Re: Who is getting one?

I was just looking at this yesterday!
The GTS model has so many more features than the GT, no idea who would buy the GT. And I love the big centered tacho's :D

But it's not fast enough for me. Would be better if it was closer to 180ish kw

Re: Who is getting one?

you guys have to remember this is more of a mx5 or an original ae86 rather then a silvia or 350z.

its meant to be 'low' on power, but makes up for its chuckability and probably short gears. if these drive like an mx5 but better....sign me up for one. i was quite surprised at how the mx5 drove, it really does have the connection to the driver.

i just hope the 86 has equal length exhaust headers, i dont want no boxer rumble

Re: Who is getting one?

Having discussed this car on OCAU since 2007, and people still not understanding the idea behind this car (classic v8 fans who want 800hp or nothing (wild generalisation of OCAU population)), I think its a great design. Obviously the turbo version would be more fun, but I think I would be happy with either.

Re: Who is getting one?

File this under hairdressers cars.
right next to mx-5, celica.

Not doubting it's effectiveness as a 'sports car' but I don't think this will become the next cult classic JDM hero car.

Re: Who is getting one?

They are a nice car, but very similar to the new Subaru BRZ thats coming out.. well they both use the Boxer engine now

Only car im lookin forward to coming out is the Hyundai Genesis Turbo, or even the Veloster Turbo

RWD + 2.0-liter turbo now generates 274 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque on premium fuel. And, unlike many competitive turbo engines, this turbo's anti-knock sensors automatically adjust ignition timing and engine mapping to run perfectly on regular fuel, yielding 260 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 RPM. The turbo engine also features a cast-aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head

Brembo® four-piston calipers clamp down on fade-resistant 13.4-inch ventilated front brake rotors and 13-inch ventilated rear rotors on both R-Spec and Track models

That's cuz they developed the car together lol

And I doubt I'm gonna see many hairdressers driving this car, just like I don't see many hairdressers driving mx5's, just like i don't see lancers being a 'chicks car'.
The GTS looks mean from the front with its DRL's. Hairdressers don't drive mean looking cars lol

toyota 86 = subaru brz. different badges

id prefer the older gen coupe. dont like the new one. id get the 4b11 powered one too, rather then the 6b powered one

Re: Who is getting one?

I've been salivating over the brz/86 for a while now, 6 month waiting list already from what I hear. I will probably be looking to get one at the end of 2013, early 2014 finances permitting. the aftermarket support for them is supposed to already be fairly comprehensive from what i've read.

Re: Who is getting one?

there should be a mitsu one.
with a 4g63 (or 4b11), brembos and awd. *poo* yeah

Re: Who is getting one?

This is actually a really good looking car, dont really like the look of modern cars these days but dayuuummm this is fine, if it were turbo i would definately consider getitng one, especially due to the fact its rear wheel drive

So many people fussing over this car.

Don't act like you're above it all!

The thing that gets my attention (rather than an rx8 or 370z) is its value....
30k for a spanking new car that is purely for fun (in this day and age) is just plain wicked
