Suddenly Died..Timing? Engine siezed?... CE 1.8L..

it's not a cheap job if it has... may be easier to get a donor engine.

You could have bent valves, damaged the head, damaged the cam mounts and also a piston or two. (if that is the case, the head has to come off anyway).

The guys here will know how much a 'runner' exchange will be worth...

Guys?

Well it sounds like Ur belt has jumped a handfull of teeth. Valves possibly hit pistons which results in bent valves. If u know a mechanic get then to check it out for ya. Other wise the mechanic that Ur parents use etc etc u get the idea....
If anyone knows any decent mech's in Wagga/ Temora let me know...
Only ones any of my fam have ever gone to have been rip off ***** that stuff around, and im female, when they look at me they see $ signs...
Not paying someone $600 to put a $100 timing belt on it only to tell me the engines rooted afterwards...
( don't mean to sound rude or harsh) but Never yet had a good experience with mech's. Which is one of the reasons i wanna learn as much as i can for myself.

Yeh, thats what i was worried bout...

trying to find a motor online now to get an idea of price.

There are things you can do, as people have suggested... you can take out the plugs (to remove compression), then put the car in manual and try to 'free-wheel' the engine (turn it over using a socket on the crank pulley for example...

But if you have siezed it, then it should be quite evident when/if it does not move...

Yes, thnx.. I'll do that tomorrow once i get it home.. its 50km away in someones frnt yard at the mo. Going to get it in the morn, Then investigate

To everyone that said battery, the battery isn't really doing anything when the vehicles in motion. Same with starter motor, so if it died while driving neither of these is at fault. Unless the alternator is wrecked and wasn't charging the battery in the first place, and that last start was just lucky. There are marks on the cam gear and also on the crankshaft pulley, they line up with marks on the head and the bottom plastic cover for the pulley. If it just doesn't want to turn by using hand tools then it's most likely wrecked valves/pistons etc.

Just take it to a mechanic, if it is seized they should be able to figure that much out for you without doing too much. At most head removal to check, but what you got left to lose now.

How did you go did check the voltage in battery? also check ebay thread 1.8 motor for sale although in sydney

UPDATE-----
Towed it home, put a new belt on it, alligned timing, ran like a pig, towed it to mitsubishi, they confirmed that valves were bent.... Towed it home, bought a motor from a wrecker ( with 150 000 Less kms :) ) and me n my bro set about doing a motor swap for the first time... ( atleast we knew how to to the timing by now lol). I put a new water pump on it too....anyway, got it all back together, n it would try to kick over, but wouldnt start
So we were like WTF??, checked all wiring, checked we had spark, i changed the crank angle sensor, Checked we had fuel pressure by pulling a fuel line, fuel shot out when key was turned... Still wouldnt start... Then my brother thought " *fudge*, i wonder if the injectors on the newer motor were blocked / stuffed from sittin dry for god knows how long"...
So i spent 10 mins, changed the fuel rail/ injectors from the old motor onto the new one, and she started first kick :D:D:D

To all those who are putting off doing ur timing belt coz the mechs charge *poo* loads.... If you have any mechanical nouse, give it a go.. The belt cost $50... If not, pull the top cover off ( its just a few 10mm bolts) and check the condition of the belt, and if need be, get it done!

Do a DIY! Give me something to read.

awesome to hear its working again
and looks like it was the EXACT same issue that killed my last engine :p
belt jumped, busted the valves, seized the engine...
all fun and games :p atleast yours didnt die on the way to an auslancer cruz :p

Lol, yeh, mine died on the way to victoria from nsw... luckily it did it 70 km from home, not 700km away

Yep easy job and i only charge 250-300 including belt to change the timing belt at work..... Good to see you guys having a go and getting it all sorted out....
