Stock 1.8L Coupe what to do first?

Yeah I agree with you, I think its probably a good way to go for now plus its cheap :p

Is the one you have a bolt on or welded? I take it it just slips over the stocky pipe?

mine was nothing just a metal tip, i cut off about 2cms off the end of the stock tip (the knoby end and a tiny bit more so it didnt protrude out the new tip)
then i slid the tip over till it touched the muffler (was a very loose fit cos it was 2.5" expanded to 3" tip, made it fit flush with muffler

then got a roofing screw and drilled it in from the bottom so that it pushes like a clamp type thing on the stock tip and holds it on with 1 screw

then touch over the screw lightly with some black spray apint (make sure u put the screw under so its rather hidden

alternativly u can get it welded on but thats extra $$$

@ JD Nah Adelaide. LOL. Keen for a road trip? :p

@ res sounds like an awesome Sunday job, might do it in the morning. Cheers for the idea man. Did you just get one of those supercheap ones?

yes, for me it took about 2hrs of work to get it perfect with little tweaks, its not hard to do, just make sure u do it as neat as u can, cos presentation is everything
the better and more seemlessly u fit it the more ppl will beieve u have a nice performance zorst thats is ninja

Ah cool. I was thinking of going with the twin exhausts I reckon they might look cool.

As for cutting the stock pipe: how did you do it? I have a severe tool shortage here so best I have in the shed is a hacksaw

Does anyone on here have experience with the K&N replacement panel filter? It seems like the best option but Im a bit sceptical about whether the "claims" of horsepower gains are actually noticeable.

I had noticeable increase in speed of revving, logically I must have had some power gain. The real benefit here is you can clean it and re-oil it often. Normal pleated non-reusable filters suffer badly when they become dirty and often people don't want to spend the money keeping it up-to-date. They're expensive for a throwaway item...

Keeping a K&N clean, keeps your car breathing better and keeps fuel economy as good as it gets...

WRT the power gains, I also have a full zorst and a DIY CAI from the front of my car to the panel...so it's the best 'I' could make it.... The power gains were good (with the whole-lot done), a little over 10%.

twin zorsts on a lancer is kinda lame, but if its your tastes then go for it, but u may well lose power and it may well drone alot
some ppl on here have done it, i thing lancer99 and one other....

i used a grinder to cut it off, if u wanna go hacksaw then do it, but i can see that being a pain in the arse

Twin tips with a mivec v6 conversion however ;-)

Ok well I got a quote from AAA Exhausts for $280 + zaust tip for a Lukey Ultra Flo muffler fitted. Going there tomorrow. Good deal? Yay/nay?

What tip should I go for? Sizes? Pics? Scrap the twin zaust idea, not worth it if I can run into trouble.

Thanks guys! Great site you have going on here Ive been looking for this sort of forum for a while now :D

geezus, $280 is a bit steep for just a tip, as far as i kno most ppl can get fulll catbacks including muffler for $350-ish

tru tru, i wouldjust fork out the extra few $$ and go that catback at the same time man
u might aswell if ur gettign a performance muffler

Well I was considering getting this now and later down the track possibly looking into full zaust replacement with headers, cat and then just re-use the muffler. Unfortunately money situation doesnt really permit that much seeing as I have to get windows tinted and spoiler resprayed coz I reckon the clearcoat is on its way out.

Does it really matter about catback? For now Im just going for better looks and when I have more $ Ill look into go fast bits :p
