R31 drift project (thoughts?)

Who gives a *fudge*. If you have the motivation, time and money go for it. Projects aren't simple though, you'll want some serious mechanical knowledge if you going to start from just a shell.
Go for it. Even if it doesn't come out the way you want it to you'll probably learn something.

Hey dawson, aren't you on an apprenticeship? I highly recommend against this idea just because you won't be able to fund it. As james said, it requires time, knowledge and most of all, knowledge. If you think you can hold on to this, then by all means go for it man. I've seen alot of projects gone to scrap, just don't want you to waste your money. Is this going to be reg'd as well?

lol mine got locked because i had a decent car & haters always hate plain & simple like whats happening in this thread hence why i dont update my cars anymore i go elsewhere.

Aaron yours got locked because you have a new car and a new thread every week that you buy and then sits in your yard. People want progress!! I dont think there was so much hate as everyone wanting all the pages of spam to be backed up with some results and not just talk.

Daws I reckon go for it. Why not stick with the 3L engine, if you want to do a conversion a VLT conversion would be a lot simpler than the RB, and plenty of parts available for them for cheap.

It was locked due to all the spam in your member's ride threads... and the amount of unfinished ride threads you have....

If you had progress to update, just a quick PM to Ryan, Dave or myself and We would open it back up for you.

so because in the past i didnt finish my projects you thought it was OK to lock this one?? hmmm lets see i have a job now & a income so that makes things easier & what else  OH thats right i have a parts car aswell (makes life eaiser kids) & the vl is going in for rego on monday so yeah i did finish a project shame this forum wont ever see it

Let's try and keep it on topic.

The forum is here for constructive advice, opinions and discussions. Say what you want, but say it with respect and without malice. If you post on a forum you have will come to learn that not everyone is going to agree with you. No need to take their opinion or thoughts as an attack on you personally - text generally does not convey tone of voice so an innocent off hand comment will sometimes be treated as an attack where it simply isn't. On the other hand, sometimes it is an attack - this isn't welcome so leave it out.

Chocko if you don't want to share what you are doing with your car(s) then don't, but don't come here sharing a high and mighty attitude about it either.

how much is a working r31 worth anyway? Is it really worth buying the shell?
should be able to pick one up for bout $50.00

well i found out today that its not exactly a shell  its everything apart from the gearbox

the old owner of this has ALLOT of mechanical knowledge and is a good friend of mine, so he's going to help with the build

he also has an rb25 i will be mucking around with in the meantime

well i found out its not actually a rolling shell

its EVERYTHING but the gearbox. + extras like front end panels, rb25 ( minus gearbox/wiring/power steering and AC pumps )

well this is what the threads for. i want to hear the best feedback to make this thing a drift machine :)

lol wut dawson... u want a track only not streetable car... no ps no aircon... if it was a street car id go with power steering because im a girl.. dont need aircon.. i run no aircon around here and we get nothing you wont survive in without aircon... id like it but you dont need it.. so it comes with rb25? if so nice... get gearbox and sliiiide it... i cant drift for *poo* (never tried but i will admit i cant do it) but id love a car to learn in.. set up some cones in a car park or paddock and go nuts

yeh man, ive had second thoughts about making it a street car. and i got a mate with a huge tarmac pad i can play with.

the rb25 will need more then just a box though lol

Can still drive it on the streets without Power steering. My first car, a suzuki sierra didnt come with power steering out of the factory, was very different going to a car with power steering after never having driven one. I actually liked it better at the time without P.S, felt like you have a lot better control without it, but now Im old and lazy. If its going to be a drifter, get rid of it, taking up valuable real estate in the engine bay and its just another thing that can break.
