Nice ride, will we see Turbo Yoda in the future?

Not for a while, still on P's and don't get off them for another 2 years.
Why does that even matter?

Cause popo is intense in these here parts of the wilderness... And because most turbo's will but the car over the 125kw/tonne power to weight limit and I can't be bothered getting an exemption, mod plate and paying higher insurance rates...

Plus I don't give a *poo* about power... the CG has enough power to keep me happy and the mx5 has around the same power to weight as the CG (mx is slightly better, just less torque).

I'd have to agree, unless you wanted to make a fast track day car don't do the turbo, maybe some handling and brake mods to make it drive better.

I am getting the honor of enjoying a 185rwhp 1.6l N/A mx5 today (as well as test driving the red mx5 I posted earlier).
If you do good performance mods for N/A on these you can pull out a fair amount of power.
ITBS, CAI, Extractors, performance exhaust to match, clutch, COP, etc etc.

These things are insanely fun to drive and the handling is as they say "point and shoot" due to perfect 50/50 weight distribution and the engineering behind the car, there is a reason why it is called the best classic sportscar. (obviously debatable)

Not driven the MX5 but I can see it being loads of fun, the last RWD car I owned was a 76' Celica with a twin cam engine. Heaps of fun but like the MX5 under powered. The biggest problem with the Lancer coupe is the FWD just has no traction some times, but thats the case with most FWD cars without LSD or stability control.

Hope you have fun in the MX5, just watch out for those corners ;)

All cars will lose traction the same if you force it on, its determined by the tyre/suspension combo not the wheels driven
If ou have a rwc car is 195 section tyres and a 1.6 motor its going to lose traction very much the same as a fwd car with 1.6 motor and 195 section tyres under power.

And if you are talking about in terms of cornering grip... Well that is and always has been a simple fix of stickier/wider tyres regardless of fwd/rwd.

The whole fwd vs rwd argument is a very mislead thing these days, because of rwd 'looking' so cool people automatically think it is better... But really have u seen the fwd supercharged civics smashing time attack and easy keeping with the rwd cars. The only drive that is better is awd due to more launch grip, but i will tell you one thing... That evo we all love, its fwd biased, so there you go.

Moral of the story if you want to build a fwd car to be fast dont let people tell you you cant due to wheels driven, cos those people are full of sheet.

Evo is FWD biased......tell me more about the permanent 50/50 split in my VI.......

And the simple fact is you're relying on front wheels to turn and apply power. As opposed to RWD, fronts get to turn, rears apply power.

Not saying you can't make FWD fast, IE recent engineering changes to remove/limit torque steer & some great time attack cars.

I doubt you'll ever see an outright WTAC winner as FWD.

Was an IX review i watched, basically no more than a 50/50 split and more of a bias on front, obvoisly this isnt for all evos and i should have specified, gg.

I didn't mean to start a FWD v RWD v AWD debate I know both front and rear drive cars can loose traction.

FWD is usually under steer, RWD over steer.

I mostly notice the loss of traction in the rain, with the usual under steer coming out of corners or at roundabouts.

Oh really? I thought it was the opposite!
You only loose it in the rain because its kinda wet. Think of rain as plus 100hp in 1st gear!

In the wet at roundabouts I tend to go strait on and not where my front wheels are pointed, so under steer.

Over steer is when you loose rear end traction and the back spins you around.

FYI on the TEN news some 22yo *wally* is lucky to be alive after he smashed his EVO in someones front yard. Wonder if it was under or over steer?

Was probably knob steer.

Get better tyres. My $55 Bluestreaks can take a 30km/h corner at 40 in the wet and 55 in the dry. You're probs applying power at the wrong time.

Yeah, when it was wet

The tires are good ones, you just have to be careful in the wet and that applies to anyone driving in the wet. Even AWD can crash if pushed too far.

Maybe it's a good thing the MX5 is under powered, with a good chassis you shouldn't get into too much trouble unless you're being a knob behind the wheel.

Now the question remains, will the MX5 be allowed to come on future drives? :p

Of course, I brought the Prelude to events. Once a member always a member, you'll cop *poo* for not driving a Lancer now though.

Wow. i thought i laid that sarcasm out fairly well too..

Thats not understeer so much as aqua-planing. Not just FWD cars will experience this in the wet..

I wasn't talking about aqua-planing, I was talking under steer when the road is wet but not covered in water.

Don't know about your coupe but when I loose traction at the front it goes away as soon as I take my foot off the loud pedal.

It goes away as soon as I floor it and swing the back end out, smoke everywhere.

I shall bring the MX5 to events don't worry. I will still have the Lancer at my house (its going to my sibling) so I can still take that if need be :p
Most likely will always take the MX5 though as it's SOOOOO much fun to drive! You may all laugh at me too when you watch a 6'2" man step out of a car that goes up to his knees :p

Well what i usually do is pull second if it looses it in 1st and continue until i pull 4th. That usually helps get traction in the wet.

I actually have to push the seat forward some to reach the pedals, it has a tonne of room surprisingly on the inside haha and my head's nowhere near the roof either its awesome!

I shall bring it to the feburary nebo run :) for you all to see (if I purchase the one I am seeing tuesday that is haha, possibly the one I saw today even)
