Lukas coupe. Which amp and sub to buy ?

remember, it's really what you like and can afford... but don't impulsively buy 'now'.... when another few weeks could see you with something better... if it's only a matter of a few hundred more..

Go to a big sound place (not Autobarn or Repco = fail) and listen to their sound wall.. choose what's in your budget, meets your requirements or take note of how much more you will need to get what really tickles your fancy.

Happy hunting!

what's wrong with autobarn? They're not all rubbish stores. The one at Bundall I know used to keep a massive range including Focal, Hertz and DD. Tamworth used to keep Alpine, Rockford and the top line Clarion units. All depends on the actual store. I'd sooner buy from autobarn then wow. Just my 2c

well, I bought from Ryda, so WOW wasn't even an issue... but seriously, the rubbish most places like SCA, Autobarn and Repco have is embarrassing....

Good luck that you had some decent stuff... not sure where the WOW hate started from?

Thought you mentioned buying off wow the other night, and cos you have Polk I just assumed that's where it came from because it's pretty much wow's flagship brand. REPCO and Supercheap have very limited selection of bottom line gear. However with Autobarn everything is individually owned - not just franchised out. So it's up to the owner/managers of each store to decide what they want to stock. Some will have just the base range of what is advertised in the catalogues (which is required by each store), but other stores that have a good market will have extensive ranges. Think it's Slacks Creek that's the big 3 level QLD store, big range of everything. The store down here at Bankstown sucks for audio but has a good performance range including a heap of turbos and housings in stock - and has a big range of Sparco gear in stock.

Yes I have bought Polk Speakers from WOW.. but there is a lot more to my system than just Polk... would it have mattered where I purchased or would you jump on the hate-train for there as well...?!

Certainly, unless you live near a very accomplished Autobarn, most of their sound walls are fundamentally a fail... really inexpensive rubbish that suits most white VN commonbore driving bogans...

Trick for noobs, go to a very high-end place, even just to listen to the best gear... then you will know what you need to aim for in the future. Mine is not anywhere near the top of the tree, because a lot of people will heap on the hate for Polk... but I know what I do like and also what is crap.. Don't just buy something because it's in the store you happen to be in...

autobarn are ok if you find the right store, i do agree some a chit though

Whose hating? All I said was that I'd sooner buy from Autobarn than Wow.

yeah the autobarns in melbourne are fair rubbish, and not a good range at all . (well the ones in the eastern suburbs anyway )

very good for the price

but i dunno for me though, i feel that crossing brands is not good as it wont look as good in the boot .

Seriously, the sub needs not be the same brand as the amp... it isn't always in your best interest to be a brand loyalist!

Remember, sound quality first... looks second.

LOL my thoughts! If it sounds good and cost not much, ill take it, if it doesnt look matching ill put a thin sheet of stealth fabric over it all. or invert the sub.

Hey man, if you want you can try JB Hi-Fi in eastland and speak to Louie, the car audio guy. Great guy and can nearly always do you a great deal. They stock Sony, Alpine, Clarion, JL Audio, Kicker, MB Quart, and so on.

cheap stereos sound cheap

That is true, and it's true for most things, if it's cheap it's gonna have a cheap quality... Example, I've got s***y $50 6x9s and $90 HU and some 6"s I got of john, and it sounds nothing like my splits and 6"s in my car (without the sub), with the price difference being ~$1000, and my gear is still only cheap (except my deck, one of the top without a screen).
