low profile 16"

yea 45 profile on 16" rims is perfect.

and 40 profile is for 17"

Actually jazza that comers down to the width. The profile is a percentage of the width. For example, if the tyre was 16" and had a 215 or 225 width 40 profile would be just about perfect.

You'll be fine. I run 16's, tyres on them are 215/40. I'm also using an Evo 4 Cluster. My speed is out by about 2kph at 100kph according to GPS. Unless you plan on running 18's + i'm pretty sure you'll get away with it.
speedo is dependant on the speed sensor not the cluster.
Using evo clusters on a mirage/lancer gearbox and mirage/lancer speed sensor gear does not throw of readings.

The advice im going to give you is dont buy 16x6
the ideal tyre size you sohould run is 205/45/16 and the specific rim width from for example Bridgestone for a tyre of that size is 6.5-7.5
Now the tyre will out of specifications and cause side wall flex inward.
Thats not good.

215/40/16 has slightly smaller diameter than 205/45/16 as well as a 205/50/15 but it is a tiny bit bigger than 195/50/15.
215/40/16 has a specific rim width of 7-8.5 inch.
If you mount that rim on a 16x6 its even more terrible than mounting a 205/45/16.

ok so basically im looking to buy some rims off a guy and hes got low profiles on the 16" that i want..

will this affect my speedo cause they would be smaller wheels then the ones i have atm or would i need to buy new tyres

cheers
Simon use this to compare
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Also keep in mind about using the width rim width with right tyre.
16x6 come on factory cars.
They use larger diameter silly width sizes like 195/55/16. Narrow width but higher profile.

there 205/45/zr16
perfect.
rim is most likely 6.5 or x7
if its x6 its wrongly matched and dont buy it.
if tread is good price seems ok. Is close to no tread I dont think its worth it.
You also need slim nuts with those wheels.

i dont think the guy knows much about the tyres cause when i was asking questions he keep on telling me

"whats that???" so id say 6" width is probably wrong ..

also they have brand new tyres so thats y i think the price was highish

the rim's should have it stamped on them somewhere(6.5or7) tell him to check the rims not the tyres! as you say, you don't think he knows too much.
i have 16" ROH rims & it has a 6.5 stamped on them. I'm running 205/45/zr16they seem fine.

**** THE POLICEE!!!

When you go to get a RWC they won't pass them
are you sure.. when i bought the car they were on it and they got passed by the RWC

im not sure if all states are the same with this or maybe just some mechanics are abit easier doing RWC

Look, technically you won't pass, because it is illegal to run a lower load rating than that stamped on the wheel placard of the car, however I think this is extremely common that this check gets overlooked.

ok so im gonna have a look at them today...

were abouts would i find the size staped on the wheel,,

also does it say the offset of the wheel on the stamp and what would be a good offset.. would +40 be to much or should it be more +35

turns out they were 16x7... heavy as f*** and had scratches and paint ships all over

so glad i didnt buy them, and the guy was like..ill take 400$.... pssshhh take a walk u fool

$400 isn't that bad for 16x7 with brand new tyres... I paid $350 for my 16x7 with tyres from the local wreckers.
yeah but they looked like someone had polished it with acid
