Looking to buy a CJ lancer...

Okay apparently it was owned by an older driver (one previous owner) who got the bonnet done.

Test drive tomorrow if the finance passes.

What insurance company are u with? How can prices be so higher??
Who was talking about insurance?

Not sure what the insurance on the CJ will be for me but going by carsales.com.au it should be around $500 for me.

Rego on my CC is about $350 for 6 months, slightly less for 12. Anyone know how they work out the rego in QLD as I went on the WLD Transport site and according to them it's exactly the same as it's classed as a small/med 4cyl car. What do others pay for a CJ in QLD or any where else?

Bugger!

Some other person when in and got the car this morning :(

More annoyingly they kept trying to push me into another can, Impreza, ES Lancer even a Commodore!

Nice black VRX in Sydney but not really worth the trip IMO.

I swear I seen you say something about higher insurance costs with the ralliart etc

But more for turbo's?

Just seems weird you can have a new CJ costing the same rego as a 21yo CC. Personally if I was in charge I'd set it up so older cars cost more, not by much but just to try and push people into newer cars which are safer and better for the environment.

Okay there is another MY09 for 11k in Brissy that could be a ok, few more km on the clock but it looks 100% stock. Shame as I would have loved that EVO style front and twin pipes and the back.

So anyone here know of an 18yo who is getting a CJ on the Sunshine coast?

What about insurance?

I know rates vary depending on car, location and the driver but adding a turbo how much does that add to your insurance bill?

Seriously, just call them up and ask mate. If you are serious about doing things like this you should find out first hand instead of relying on what you read on the internet.

Your organizing finance and test-driving and everything and you still have no idea about insurance costs.

First yes I have some idea on insurance and I went to QLD transport and got the rego cost. I just asked for feedback and help here on the AusLancer forum, isn't this meant to be a community to share advice and knowledge about the cars we drive?

I feel let down by the car year, now I can understand they are their to sell cars but I had an appointment for the test drive so I feel I should have had first crack at the car. They they try and sell me a Impreza RS (out of my price range) and a ES Lancer with crappy after market alloys.

Yes but no one can know your full situation and which insurer's will be competitive for you, yet alone what the cost is. It's also not that hard to go to the insurer's website and start punching in various car choices to see what the prices are...

Money talks, bullshiit walks as the saying goes...

How do they know you aren't a tyre kicker? The first person to put down their cash gets the car. Next time you need to have everything ready to go, so that you casn immediately put down a deposit on the car you want.

Well I'd been in there 3 times in a few days, agreed on a credit check and booked a test drive. Short of putting down a deposit, which would be crazy before a test drive, I don't know what else I could have done.

But in better news they got another VRX in late today, just traded on another car so will check that out tomorrow and test drive it. All I know so far is it's a 09 Sedan in Manual, don't even know the price or color but hoping for white and that the previous owner sprung for the good stereo on the options list.

I believe they have a timing chain, and should only require servicing when the light comes on.

Might be getting this...

Not a fan of the wheels, what are they worth?

So options guys?
I'm already considering painting the wheels or at least trying some of that plastic paint you can easily remove later, I hate the chrome.
Also is it worth taking there extras package, including tint. It has none, just privacy glass at the back. There are also options for paint and interior protection. Total is $1000 for the lot.

Did also notice a dent in the window surround on the drivers door, I know it's not an easy fix. Its about half way down the B pillar part of the frame. Didn't get a photo of that.

Oh but it does make a nice sound with an after-market exhaust. Not as loud as the CC but still better than stock.

FYI I will be opening a proper thread once the paperwork is signed.

Looks mint man! I think your better off trying to do a swap or trade for some new wheels, some people out there like that sort of stuff!! Personally, I'd get the Tint and maybe the Paint protection but that's just my opinion I guess..

Been reading some other forums and looks like I'll NOT do the paint protection. First its $1000 for paint and interior with 'free' tinting, I can get the tint done my its self for $380 from them. That said else where I can get the tint done for less than $250, I checked this morning with the guy who did the CC.

I figure with a good wash and wax it can be just as good and have read you can get a similar treatment else where at a lower price later.

Where do others stand on dealer extras like this?

Okay guys crunch time.

Black v White (or silver) is it better to have a lighter color as I can still walk away from this one.

Should I ask for something to be done about that dent, also noticed a tiny chip/crack in the front windscreen, should they fix that before delivery.

Cards on the table I really wanted a white one but as you know the VRX can be hard to find this close to the Sunshine Coast, could be weeks or months before another one comes up.

Opinions please... are you really surprised at these last minute second thoughts?

i can tell you now the black shows everything! i have a black cj the thing is always filthy! and we barely drive it
