Lazy car design... We're back to badge engineering!?

& how they turned the vr commodore into a toyota lexen. gross
That was an agreement Toyota and Holden had to sell rebadges versions of each others cars. Commodores were lexcens, camrys were apollos..

i reckon proton would be a lot better if they used their own designs on the exterior and make a name for themselves, using the mitsu engine would be fine as long as they had some creativity instead of making cars that just look like cheap knock offs

they do have a few orignonal-er designs, but almost all their designs are fair ugly

proton satira (new one) withe the middle exhaust tip, is origonalish

I agree.. don't just add a fascia and say it's your car....

Take the chassis and drivetrain and add a whole new look over the top... better.

I found what Malays actually think of them, on a forum I visit (which is also about cars and is in Malay - good for language practice).

They hate the fact that they are just a tarted-up RA....

well that blows my theory out of the water,

i was thinkin that they might hav designed it for the local Malaysian market...obviously they failed.

well, it may also be that they can buy the RA already... having it rebadged is just another poor-way of offering them the same thing, again....!

But, on forums - one thing can be held to be true... Haters will hate!!!

hehe

As I said, Protons are mainly built for domestic consumption. Given they are heavily backed by the government, they don't attract the 300% sales tax they have on imported cars, to protect their local manufacturer. So buying the Mitsubishi would cost something like 150000rm ($50k). Whereas buying the equivalent with a proton badge will more likely be 60000rm ($20k)

mitsubishis are relatively rare in Malaysia. But protons modded with mitz parts ... Everywhere!

That wouldn't be cost effective for them and defeats the purpose of just rebadging

besides, the CJ is one of the better looking cars on the market ATM. Can't blame them for not wanting to mess with a *poo* hot car

i dont mind it....a little less black on the front and heaps less on the back lol.

can't say I agree with the cj being one of the nicer looking cars on the market....the fronts nice but the rear does nothing for me

well.. when you basically rip off the Lexus IS250 rear end, I think the CJ is fairly uninspired too...and I own one! But I don't think I could own an older car...

off topic....but whys that. Havn't had a problem owning older cars myself, then again im young and have little choice.

yeah, because I can afford not to.. is the simple answer. If I hadn't spent so much time, and done so few km on my car, I would go out and get an RA, but then I have to start all over again...

Rather wait until there is a new shape, then I will get the next one.. or something similar.

personally i think the rear of the CJ is horrible.. and the proton version is just as bad!, the wide body rear looks really tacking and like its just been stuck onto the normal CJ. i had the choice of the CJ 2008 for 8K 2.0L
or the CH 2007 for 5K .. 2.4L personally im glad i got the ch.. :) cant stand the rear lights and boot of the CJ.. actually i kinda dislike the whole car..
no offence CJ drivers :p

fair enough.. none taken! I was disappointed with the power of the older 2.4, but in 2008 the CJ was only $15K, so a real steal for a near new car.

I like the look of the CH, but then the interior looks so much more contemporary on the CJ... again, just my opinion.

To each their own!!!

I've always hated the front lights on the ch and the curve in the boot. I don't like the cj shape around the sides at the bottom of the doors. Looks horrid without side skirts. I would buy one of those protons if the price is right. Could be awesome bang for buck with mitsu parts

Geez, I must be the only one digging the cj style.

Admittedly, if the tail lights were a a couple of inches lower, it'd look better. Otherwise it's a bit plain

no Mel, I am digging the @r$e-end of my car... I think it's very Lexus IS250-like... and that is appealing to me.

The front looks like a sporty-Volvo, again not unappealing to me, being that I am from Sweden.

Sexy bum....
