Lancer failed Roady :(

Better off spending the 50 and getting a proper gasket and changing it, only takes a few hours at the most.
Also you could use the time to paint the cover while it's off the engine but this will mean leaving it off over night for the paint to dry properly.

Nah fark that, enamel dries by being baked so after about 4 hours you could put it back on and just idle the car for 15mins to dry it

Went to Bridgestone today, had them test drive/look at the car.
Suspension apparently is in good condition, no bushings or anything are worn so they're not sure what the squeak was. The guy said to just give it a good spray-over with some WD-40 to help the "squeaking" (he couldnt even hear it so he thinks the RWC guy is a tosser). As for the wobbly wheels, turns out I left some sort of ring around the hub. Like a spacer of some sort that were on the help the chromies sit flush. I guess I overlooked that/didnt know what it was so yeah, I feel like an idiot.

So I guess that's that. Best thing is it cost a total of $0. Nice guys, guessed they helped me out since they didn't really have to 'work' on it.
Now all that's left is to degrease the engine bay and re-test it

Nice when you find guys like that.
Good to hear it's working out.

Rigby - you just need to be very careful not the mess up the paint finish while trying to get it back on, easier just to leave it overnight, as long as the car is in a garage and dry you shouldn't have issues with moisture getting inside the oily bits.

Not the case with heatproof paint, it doesn't dry until it's baked on. It's touch dry, but not completely dry. Doesn't dry until heat cycled. You could always use a heat gun on it while it's off the car but you'd be sitting there for a good hour before you got anywhere near the finish you get from 15mins of idling. I've done it both ways, and the better way is to definitely heat cycle it. Of course the paint around the bolt holes will come off, then the bolt itself covers it so it doesn't matter. I guess you could also throw the cover in the oven for a while...

Yeah, they've definitely got my recommendation next time someone asks for a store. Hell, I'll probably go back to them myself anytime I need something looked at.

Yeah.. as for the garage thing.
In the drive way, we've got:
20th Anniversary/Limited Edition Holden HSV R8
Holden VZ V8
Mitsubishi Lancer MR CE
Toyota MR2 SW20 Bathurst

And guess what takes up all the room in the garage... povo-spec Holden Astra.
Women.

You let a woman take the prime parking spot? What the *fudge*. I used to make my missus park either on the street or in the driveway. Garage spot is mineeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Haha, it's fair enough for me since I'm just paying board and all that.
But the fact that my granddad lets his beautiful HSV sit out in the driveway and fade/get dirty is a sin.

We should f*ck the Astra right off, it's not a real car.

Alright so little update, had the guy swing by again today. Everything looked pretty good until he test drives it, comes back and complains that the suspension was still squeaking.
I took it in to Bridgestone the other day, explained that they couldn't find anything so thought that I should just do a good spray-over with WD-40 (which I did) was the best I could do but na-da. Failed it again.

Not too sure what my options are, he's given me until Thursday. He recommended just taking the control arm apart and spraying in the threads, etc. and just making sure everything gets a good coat.
Funny thing was he got under the car (after dissing Bridgestone/their apparent lack of competence) and couldn't find an issue either.

Get. A. Different. Guy. Out. Right. Now.

I think I'll wait till Thursday (when the greenslip expires) then I'll get a different guy.
Cause I thought you're not allowed to get another RWC while you have one in progress?

*fudge* this guy man he's a right tosser. a squeaking suspension bush is NOT a roadworthy issue. i've had cabs go over the pits where they shake the car to buggery with squeaky suspension joints and been passed this bloke doesn't know *poo*. and if he came to do my car he'd fond himself reported to qld transport quick smart

how much has he charged you thus far?

You're allowed a second opinion on anything you do

Ah okaty, Bridgestone guy told me otherwise. I'm not really knowledgeable on this sort of stuff (or anything car-related now that I think of it)

He's charged me $88 for the original call out, but nothing for the second visit that happened this morning. So I can imagine that he's be rightly pissed off if I don't re-schedule so the greenslip expires/he doesn't get paid for the 2nd visit, but hey.. his fault for trying to screw me over. Like just pass it.. if all cars had to be 100% perfect, you'd never find a car for under $5000.

if squeaky suspension was a roady issue my car wouldn't even be on the road my car squeaks just getting into it. your profile says gold coast where abouts? and who have you been using?

Never heard of squeaking suspension as a problem, any knocking sounds yes but squeaking.

How does he know it's even in the suspension?

Live in Highland Park, using a mobile mechanics from Southport called AutoKings.
Currently the car is booked in for next Monday at a store called Motive Mechanical in Ashmore. My granddad has been taking his HSV R8 there for years and they never screw him around so.. worth a shot.

Thing is, he kinda doesn't. Bridgestone couldn't find anything, he got under the car after boasting about his 30+ years in mechanics and couldn't find anything.

I'm going to let the greenslip expire this Thursday, and get this other mechanic to fix up the suspension/do a new RWC for me

as far as mobiles go i use east coast mobile saftey certs. our cabs go to rods nerang autos in ashmore for their gas certs (i think he also does roadworthys) there is also a mechanic next door to my workshop who does them but he's abit of a stickler

A few days, disassembled control arms, squirts of WD-40, and a trip to the mechanic later, the Lancer has it's RWC. Just needed a little WD-40 is all :)

So the Lancer will be going up for sale in the next few days but I'm unsure with pricing.
It's a 97 Automatic CE MR, White, decent paint with 216,000kms, okay sound system (4way Kenwood amping front speakers and 10" JVC sub), defective air con (apparently leak under dash somewhere)

I was originally hoping to get maybe $3500, but with the aircon cracking the shits, I'm not sure
