ive been trying to find a good guide on this for ages i have tried to download online manuals;research etc..

but i might be accepting defeat soon an buying the lancer prober service repair manual / or paying an auto electrician to do the job..

i have a 1994 gl cc executive
so far as far as ive gotten is pulled the knee protector out under steering wheel

no idea on the next step as the online manuals arnt very useful.

any advice or step procedure would be appreciated i hate the stock am/fm radio haha so.. hope to fix this asap

ok so dont touch anything around your steering wheel. pull your headunit out, bin it.

"get a harness. You can probs find them in SuperCheap Auto, if not eBay. One end plugs into your Lancer harness and the other end into the back of the headunit."

Its compliments of Rigby and from this thread viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6201&p=160986&hilit=harness#p160986

Buy one mitsubishi harness and then one harness of the brand of your head unit eg JVC SONY ALPINE. The brand harness will plug into your headunit while the other end will plug into your mitsubishi harness. that mitsu harness will plug into a stock white plug just behind where your headunit sits. then your done!

thanks for that thread very useful for when im actually up to the harness/wire loom stage an your input on this topic

this is my first car im not some tech head when it comes to these things i use to just see my mates do headunit installs in there commies an falcons unscrew dash parts blah blah.. jumping into the lancer its nothing like the falcons or commies besides the 4-5 screws holding the knee protecor thing in place

im kinda stuck on an infact have no clue on
actually getting into the center console i.e screws dash parts etc to get to old am/fm radio unit i will attach pictures of what i mean..

looking pretty grim on this topic atm not much input im guessing
going have buy a prober manual or pay someone haha..

dude, you pull out your old one, buy the 2 harness from supercheap, plug them both into eachother, then one end into the stock wiring and one end into your knew headunit. Then your done. I dont have a CC but there is probs a couple of screws then you will be able to pop it off.

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure there was no need to pull out the 'knee protector'.
Everything you need to access should be right behind the head unit, once you've pulled it out.

the problem is an still remains how do you pull out the old am/fm radio unit

not how to installl it -.-
hence why ive took photos of my console an
the apprent uneccesary taking off the knee protector section

im trying to remove it ive read up on the wireing an harness required

an youve clearly told me what i need just need some form of idea on removing it from the console..

ok man here how you do it

first your going in the wrong area.

see the aircon controls?

look up to the roof at the plastic cover under the vents there is two screws. remove them

then VERY VERY VERY carfully pry on the outside edge of the plastic there pop clips that hold it in place.

if the car has cup holders pull the cup holder tray out to give some room.

you will now find there is 2 wireing looms holding it in at the switches up the top and a cable.running down into the drivers foot well. unplug the looms and then follow the cable down to a big white aircon vent box remove the cable from the vent box and you done you now have full access to the radio and the loom you need.

the two red arrows in this image show where the screws are if you break the surround i wish you the best of luck it's taken me 5 years to find a good one i'm willing to sell it but it will cost you DEARLY

yeah mate shes got the cup holders right above the cig lighter
is there a certain way you pull the cup holder out
thanks leadfoot appreciate your swift knowledge on this sketchy do it yourself remove

As above.

Step one, the two screws in the above picture are the ones you need to take out. Then put a cloth over a screw driver and gently pry out the black fascia (plastic surround) that houses your A/C, vents and headunit. The whole thing will plop out like this.

Also as above, if you have cup holders you need to keep an eye out at the bottom of the fascia to make sure it doesnt get caught on the cup holders.

Your stock headunit... I'm not sure how to take it out as I never had a stock one, but it should be housed on some silver brackets either inside the dash or stock onto the fascia that you just pulled out. If it's stuck to the fascia, unplug your headunit from the back of it and then un-attach it from the fascia. Also a good time to check if the harness for your new headunit will plug into the existing wires from your old headunit (probably won't). This is when you go buy a harness from supercheap auto for your model lancer (the guys at the counter should be able to point it out, otherwise they should be out of a job).

You should now be able to attach that new harness you just bought to the existing wiring from your old headunit, then plug your headunit into your new wiring. Then you just need to mount your headunit back onto the fascia, plug it all in, and push the fascia back into the dash (don't clip it back in fully yet, this is the time where you need to turn your car on and check that it's wired up properly). Then put those 2 screws from earlier back in. Done.

Your cup holders are held into the back of your fascia, can't take them out unless your fascia is already out so you can access the screws behind it. Unless they are screwed unto your dash and not the fascia. Either way, can't take them out until the fascia is out.

cheers rigby also very good advice but one thing im unsure of last noob question
whats with the hole disconnection of air vent looms why do you need to do that?
leadfoot mentioned this im just wondering is it so you have more room to acess the am/fm thing

if all fails an it frustrates me i think im just going pay an auto electricion haha but ill have a fair crack at it before forking cash out

You don't need to unplug it as far as the air vents and all that are concerned. Not necessary unless you plan on pull out the entire section of that wiring and soldering on a new section. Not necessary if you just use adapter harnesses. If you can't find a harness, just use male/female plugs instead. Cut one wire at a time, strip it back 1cm, crimp a plug onto it, do the same to the wires sticking out of your new headunit, plug the male/female connectors into each other and crimp then shut too. Crimping just means squeezing the plug shut tight with a pair of pliers.

cheers mate
ill give it a go now i have a better understanding
thank you very much if all fails an i cant do it myself

ill pay the auto electrican bloke to do it
but have now i have a much better understanding :)

No worries. When I install my double din DVD head unit I'll do a proper write-up. Take a loot in the DIY section for CC Lancers, might be something useful in there.

once you start pulling out the section rigby posted you will see what i mean. there two plugs that go into the back of the hazzard and rear demister switch. and a bike cable like thing that controls part of the vent system. that will keep it from comming all the way out.

i personally when it comes to wireing take out the stock unit it should have a small plug that goes to the head unit and a larger plug that goes to the cars loom. once this loom is out (it's only about 5 -10cm long and has two plugs on it one goes into a head unit the other goes onto a plug on the car side) you can cut off the factory head units plug and join the supplied plug that came with your headunit to it

Oh true, I never usually pulled mine all the way out. Forgot about that.

There will be plugs you need to unclip from behind the hazard and demister switches, squeeze and pull. Then there will be a cable running from the control on the right side of your air vents, you can either unattached it at the top or bottom of the cable, up to you. This will completely free the fascia from the rest of the dash but I never bother to take that vent cable off, too much hassle to get it back on.
