Idling problems 4G93

Hi all, i have a CC lancer 4 door with a 4g93 1.8L in it. I've been having some problems with it when it's cold. I'll first start it and it will idle at 2k, then it will eventually drift down to 1k idle. that was all fine, but now it sits at 2k, and once it is warm, it drops to 1k goes back up to 2k goes back down to 1k and so on, this happens quit fast as well, sounds like a lumpy cam, but with 1k jumps. Has anyone got any ideas as to why it does this?. It is fine as soon as i turn it off, and back on again. But is quite frustrating having to wait for it to completley warm up to have to turn ot off then turn it back on just for it to run properly. Last service was approx 5000k's ago. Some advice would be great before i take it down to the mechanics.

you need a new idle control motor mate, a bit costly for brand new but you could get a second hand one for a reasonanble price

oh true. How hard are they to install?. Im a bit strapped for cash. Couldnt possible be anything else?

does sound like the idle control motor had problem on my old honda civic once just went to the wreckers and got a second hand for few pretty cheap and get the mechanic to install it

Sounds like the idle speed controller to me, we had problems with our Pajero doing it ages ago.

Recently I had problems with my CJ, the MAF died and it wouldnt rev past 4000RPM without sputtering and it sounded like a lumpy cam on idle going from nearly stalling to 1000RPM and so forth. But given you're only experiencing the issues at idle I'd say this isn't your issue and LWNSLW is most likely on the money. No idea how quick it is to change out though sorry, I would imagine it's not an overly hard job...

I'm just confused that once you turn the engine off, and back on again it seems to be fine.

yes because it gives the isc a chance to cool off a touch. not hard just be carefull getting the trottle body off not to break the gasket

cool, thank's for that. Ive called up a few places, cant seem to find em at any wreckers. Found a new one for 395. :/ Looks like i may just have to put up with it for a while.

cheers,

everyone else said it, so here goes nothig. Sounds like the idle speed controller to me,

lol. umm... oh that makes more sense now?

thanks for that input, much clearer now as to what the problem is =)

i will have one avalible in towards then end of the year when i start pulling my coupe apart so its your if you need it...

cheers, ill keep that in mind.

got a mate who works at a new car wholesaler, he thinks he may be able to get one in for me cheap at cost

what part of, ill be there in 3 hours to ppick it up, leave it there for me DONT YOU UNDERSTAND!!!. A CE one sould fit fine though... BULLSHIT, THEY'RE COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT!!!.... grrrrrrrrrr

is it worth taking the control motor out of it, and fitting it to mine?. is that at all possible

also, i gave the old throttle body a cleanout, reseated the sensor plugs all that, still nothing. Now have to find a way BACK down to the wreckers to get my refund... all within seven days. Im really pisse d :/

I know this is a bit of an old thread but I seem to have started having a similar issue (4g93, just in a ce instead)
When cold my lil ce refuses to idle right, idles really low, jumps up and down around 300 and feels like its gonna stall on me.
Seems fine after about ten min though, all comes back to normal and won't happen again until the car is completely cold. Idles fine though until I drive it any distance, which I find a bit odd.
Guess I'm lookin at a similar issue eh?
Got new plugs in, k&n panel, and just had the spark plug leads changed. Also switched over to syn oil a little while ago but this has only started happening in the last few days. Tried resetting the ecu and no joy. Really hope it's something simple hehe.

Cheers guys!
