okay well im sick of being a "wannabe evo" wanna loose the wing but the stock one just wont suit the kit and wingless looks horrbile on CH's..
if i get one of those GT style aluminim spoilers are they street legal?
i read somewhere that as long as it doesnt go out further than the width of the car there fine but just needa be sure

also please dont flame the *poo* out of me "ricer" blah blah , and it wont be completely pointless  as the cars gonna be pushing around 240 hp atw soon.

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

Well here in Nsw i've read around that they are deemed illegal and defectable.
Read around websites and basically they say the same thing.
Either what you mentioned about the spolier doesn't go out further than the width of the car or with the sharp edges some may have etc.

Stands out more, more of a reason for a cop to pull you over.

But totally up to you.

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

I would suggest the above would be sound advice,.... sticking outside your boot's line and/or sharp edges contravenes most state laws on items attached to cars!

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

i have to say it, a gt wing looks more tryhard than your wannabe evo wing
atleast the evo wing is good looking and suits the car
gt wings belong at the track for serious downforce not for street going cars

other than that it'll attract cop attention and is probably illegal coz the only ones i have ever seen look rather sharp

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

yes.. il have to find out. anyone kno where i can find exactly what mods are legal to do to ur car?
they need a huge list of everything u can and cant do! would be some much easier!!
goverment websites are so f*king *poo*.. how are you suppose to know if its legal or not if they dont tell you.. then they give you a nice fine/defect.

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

In QLD it's easy, we have a great website...

Why not do some of your own leg-work and visit your dept. of transport office.... dead-set simple!

still pointless as its fwd

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

grip is grip, having a wing providing downforce on the rear still increases grip at high-speed....

saying it's pointless is a bit much!

there pointless & look f*cking ugly & it would be on a FWD car as MOR31 said

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

but if the car isnt going to see a track to often then it wouldnt be worth it, because i cant see u needing the extra grip at the rears on the streets, track it may be beneficial, but i'd look into something else if ur buying it for gripping performance -> an anti lift kit would do better for grip and cost way less

but tbh ur better off putting the money to ur turbo savings so u can get that done sooner

I didn't say 'go for it', I agree it may be the wrong choice, but I am not trying to enforce my opinions on others... it's his choice.

oh, someone saying 'it is pointless' and you agreeing makes it a physics certainty... stop being a dill...

Some British touring cars are only FWD and use wings and canards for downforce... I am not ignorant, so please don't try and make me seem so.

jeeeeez  IMO! they are pointless & look ugly & are not even used for downforce just so you get the "fast & furious" look hell most of them dont even have a adjustable "blade" so comparing a GT wing to the ones BTC's use is lol worthy because theres are fully adjustable & probaly cost more then my magna.

OT: i would leave the wing you have on oliver because the GT would just look a bit silly

kthanxbi

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

"GT wings.. stupid or not?"
is what this should have been called.

i didnt realise CH's were rear wheel drive?
oh wait they're not...
also; 240hp, 30hp or 1200hp. doesnt matter. wings create downforce on the rear wheels. so unless u drive a rwd car at 200kp+ all the time. its useless.

dont do it. it will look *fudge*ing ridiculous.

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

gt wings are illegal....according to the good taste police.

imho, they're stupid, unless its on a race car be it grip or slide.

if you re desperate, avoid aluminium blades, get a thick carbon or FG one, and low mount it ;)

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

ARTA JGTC NSX needs a gt wing
ARTA_NSX_01.jpg

your lancer does not.

people who say they are useless dont understand downforce.. fwd and wings to go well together on the racetrack.. but no offence to OP but this car will not need one.. lol

the fasted fwd car in the country has a gt wing

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

Just read all of the posts here, some of you have made your point but try to do so in a friendly manner please :)

As far as I know Oliver the police do not like carbon wings in Western Australia and they certainly won't like a GT wing. I have known people who have tried and it is illegal, you'd get fined for all sorts of reasons to do with it too. More trouble than it's worth, I reckon stick with the one you have or take it off and don't have one :)

Re: GT wings.. legal or not?

was built for superlap so i assume their rules would of been strict for cages and stuff?

but then again now i look at it compared to the AMS time attack evo x i see a pretty extreme difference in the cages
