What's a loud set up for a 1.5l that will still sound alright?
ATM got a cannon(lol) and a so called sports muffler , some *poo*ty muffler.
Getting my hens extractors soon (ordered them!)
Would getting rid of the muffler with a straight pipe and a catback chucked in be louder?
 
Define loud.
Define sound alright.


Just get Hens extractors, and remove the rest of the system.
 
Loud and deep noise.
Cannon has a constant drony sound all the time.
Which isn't too bad.
Just wondering what others have done on their 1.5'a
 
Your explanation you've written up doesn't quite make sense. Firstly catcback = everything from the catalytic converter to the exhaust tip, so this will typically include the piping, a resonator and muffler. The cannon you have is a muffler so you shouldn't have a cannon + a sports muffler. Straight pipes are what describes replacing the muffler, resonator, even cat with a straight through pipe. These pieces are designed to muffle the sound so straight pipes will be alot louder, and also illegal.

If you have the money when you get the extractors put on ask them to do you a 2-2.25" catback system with a proper sports muffler. Without seeing the system you have I'd say there's a 90% chance you just have the standard muffler chopped off and the cannon welded to standard piping .
 
Just get some good extractors like the Hens ones, A high flow cat, get rid of all resonators with straight pipes, and just have a very high flow rear muffler. Would sound clean and Loud! Probably all with either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch pipe.
 
first things first PISS THAT DAM CANNON OFF!!! don't mind me i hate those things with a passion :) u actually loose torque with those thing esp on N/A motors, cannons more designed for turbo cars not too mention in adelaide cannons are defectable coz they produce db over 120 and the limit is 96db on 4cyl made after 1995. second of all i agree with the extractors but dont get just any set get a set of Tuned extractors other wise u may aswell stay with the factory ones now depending on future engine mods will depend on wether u get a 4/1 set or 4/2/1 set david from racing performance works sells both of these and come in stainless steel if u wanna go really fancy, again agree a good high flow cat get a hot dog in there too or the cops will get ya for that aswell, wouldnt worry about mandrill bends as its only a N/A motor as for exhaust box again agree go for a straight flow or high flow now for sizing at 2 1/4 will do perfectly but if u want a bit extra balls to the exhaust note goto the 2 1/2 :) also if you don't already have a high flow C.A.I get one of them too no point doing an exhaust and not that as well :) but all in all this is just my oppinion but hope it has helped in some way :)
 
I just had 2" piping into a dual tip magnaflow enhaust with a CAI, and it sounded rather loud and wasnt doney at all, if you invest your money into a good muffler and such you will get a good product inturn, mine was a 1.5L so it all depends on how much your willing to spend, since its a NA 1.5L i wouldnt go above 2 1/4" piping as it wont affect it in any way, and it will sound like *poo*... so its up to you. but if you want a good sound your going to hav e to spend the money on it
 
ive ready ordered extractors and cai from hens performance.
so when he sends them to me ill get the extractors installed, highflow cat, resonator taken out? and bigger piping maybe, i already have a hotdog. but its a diy job that i did with my mate! what should i replace the canon with? i only have 600 ish max to spend. just got a 551$ fine for apparently going through a red arrow...pfft
but again cheers for all the advice
 
Yes get rid of the resonators if you want it loud lol. I got rid of the resonator in the catback system of my lancer. 2 1/8 piping with a high flow rear muffler is surprisingly loud!
 
Yeah I installed the extractors got a magna flow highflow cat installed and with the 2 inch piping and cannon I already had. It sounds good, loud. Some reason still not fully satisfied, I can't seem to get use to the sound of the highflow cat
 
Get rid of the cannon, they sound so bad. Put a high flow rear muffler with a nice tip. It will sound so much cleaner!
 
Yeah that is the plan..... Not sure what muffler I'm going to go for though.
I just like the loudness of the cannon.. Lol
 
I had some extractors and 2" system with one muffler and a resonator in my old Lancer. I liked the look and sound of it.

Yeah I now have a 2inch piping, high flow cat and extractors.
I don't like the noise of the high flow cat though.
And I need to change my cannon for sOmething lol

Get a Vortex straight flow box :) they about 400 bux and come with a remote so u can scilence it when the cops show up :)
