DIY Transformation

you would probably find that they are all ready wired for it but lack the accessories to use it, i have a friend who go the base model 300c which didn't come with auto lights...(apparently) He took of the head light switch and found a clip on the inside, after removing it he put it back together and the switch turned 1 more click to the right and what do you know the auto lights worked. most new cars are set like this. It make for easy money for the car company cause if you request extra's they say that will cost 300 more but all they have to do is remove the clip.. ( in this case)

You are somewhat correct, in regard to CJs... My fogs were a 15min fit, but the CanBus ECU needed to be flashed to let it know it had that accessory added. I am guessing it would be the same for SMART Key as well.. I may have some more research to do.

Finally received my PLX OBD 200 head unit... after it dimmed severely... New one is going strong, here is hoping this repair holds! I love my gauge!

Hey tryg just a quick question about ur HU my friend just got a lancer sx but her HU seems so be one complete peice is there a design change or is there cutting involved in changing it

no cutting, just remove the one-piece center section (containing the factory stereo) and replace with an aftermarket 7" surround to accept the double din unit...

with the addition of an accessory loom kit, you can just plug into the existing speakers and use it without an amp.. just the HU.

All you audiophiles... I am getting the big-bass dimming of the headlights. I intend putting an OPTIMA Yellow Top battery (a good thing) in my car..

Next; I know a few of you might have capacitance in your audio system. Do you think a 10 Farad Rockford Capacitor would also be a good thing? Overkill? Enough?

i have a 10 farad in my car and that is only at 65% capacity, so yes an easy over kill do they have 5 farad

OVERKILL!! lol. The general rule of thumb is 1farad for every 1000W RMS. I have a 1 Farad rockford here that I used to use in my old system, think they also have 2 farads - and despite what skeptics will try to mathematically prove that there is no benefit or anything gained from caps, they actually work. When I first put mine in I was having big problems with lights dimming and voltage drop causing the entire system to shut off when it was at max. When I installed the cap it could then hold the voltage and not shut off or dim.

yep they work awesome, just like said above.
And yes 1 farad for 1000w RMS is right

I realise the math and the benefit, I would rather a capacitor, rather than an additional battery (since they are basically the same thing)..

Rockford have 1, 2 and then 10 farad caps. The true fact is I like the square, mountable design. Their 1 and 2 Farad Caps are the stupid barrel type...yucky.

Secondly, I can afford the 10.

So, although it is very much overkill, is there an issue having the 10?

Thanks

no issue, defiantly wont have any light dip, and i find i get better response because it get full power faster from the cap than the battery in the engine bay.

hey a quick question is it possible to hook the factory audio controls from the vrx to connect straight up to the factory ES stereo?

Yes, you just buy the steering wheel plate bit from the dealer and then remove one screw from the rear-side of the steering wheel. The plug is already sitting there ready to connect upto the button plate! I myself have personally done this to an ES, its like a 10 min job at most!

Insane post man, genuinely an eyeopener in terms of potential mods and prices, esopecially the little things! i.e, for about 3 months i wondered if i could get chrome stripping around my front airdam, and alas youve put an end to my sleepless pondering nights haha. Thanks alot man!

Hey, welcome.. these days you could always just buy a whole new front end, including the RA chrome direct from Malaysia for $700... plus painting.

I wish you well with yours.

My transformation just went to a bike for now... I have parked the Lancer for a while, since I am off to Nowra and don't want to leave the car outside (parked on the base) while I am away at sea... this will be my transport for Nowra. It can be parked inside my room while I am gone. 2006 Kawasaki Z1000, 17,000km, Two Brothers' pipes, single seat rego.. $6500.
