DIY: How to Paint (Professional Amateur Results)

I'm very happy with how the bumpers and spoiler turned out! Had to stop at 3 base coats due to wind, they need a bit of a sand though (tin recommends wet sanding 1200grit after 24 hours)

Does that sound about right to you? Should I leave it longer?

oh em gee what kind of filter did you use on your picture omg uleh

I've got water coming out of my gun! I have an inline watertrap? It's pretty full of liquid though and does it matter which way round the trap goes?

Not sure what to do, need help ASAP

EDIT: Just realised the air hose is in the sun, is that the problem?

Make sure you are draining your compressor tank every day or so. Water will build up in there aswell. Not much you can do about it in humid places like Sydney, except buying good expensive water traps. Or airconditioners/scrubbers.

I've never had a water trap, but always drain the compressor as Brendo says, i've never had an issue.

Yeah it was a hot day which is what causes most of the condensation, and heaps of water came out when I drained it. You might want to delete my posts above with just a full stop.

Just put on a much wetter coat after sanding off the dry spray from the other day. What the *fudge* is this!? Something to do with the mix or WATER? :/

It's just cloudy and whiter than the black

I know I'm a pain in the ass but I need help asap.

99% it's not in the line, it's when it starts drying it goes milky, is it to do with maybe the thinner to paint ratio or humidity/temp??

I've got a small dent in the drivers door window surround.

It's only 1-2 mm deep and probably looks worse in the photo, will spray on filler do the job?

BTW I'm thinking of painting the B pillar part of the window surround a flat or satin black and not the gloss like it is on ever other CJ that is not black, drawing a (tape) line at the top of the glass. If it works I'll do the back door and other left side doors as well.

Many, many years ago I painted the surrounds on my coupe, no dent repairs needed and they still look good to this day. But for the life of me I can't remember the paint I used, I'm sure it was a satin or flat black is the surface has textured finish.

I wouldn't touch that dent or bother painting it, you;re just creating more work for yourself over some so small and will probably not come out the way you want it. If you wanted to patch it (which I don't recommend) use filler primer and then satin black, MotoSpray does a good satin black.

I saw the filler primer spray cans down at SCA.

I want to do it because it bugs me every time I get in and just to make it a bit different having that bit satin and get it done before fitting the weather shields.
Actally there are a few bits I'm going to change from gloss to satin when I get time.
