Carbon Fiber Bonnet - Legality's

Hey guys i have found my dream carbon fiber bonnet and while im in the middle sorting out the purchase and convincing my fiance she decides to google it.. now shes saying that its ilegal to have a carbon fiber bonnet on a car after 1995 and ill need certification.. i need you guys to really help me out here and find me some proof that its legal or some loop hole so i can get this installed on my car!!! thanks!! i need help ASAP
 
what state are you in.
if you are in nsw they are illegal to have on the car (due to how they break in a crash.)
i got that info from the rta technical as i was looking at getting one my self.
 
moved from NSW to SA im buying it from adelaide from some one who had it on their car then sold their car
 
also i hear after acouple years it fades and becomes a yellowish white patchy because of our climate. is this true?

there is no way around it

only thing u can do is paint it the same as ur car so its not so obvious.
 
with the proper care, and depending on the type of carbon (dry or wet) it shouldn't fade.

in a front on collision, it will either shatter, or shear the hinges, either smashing through the windscreen and causing a possible fatality to the driver, and/or severe damage to the vehicle.

illegal, yes. but, if you do get pulled over, cop the defect notice, swap to stock bonnet and take it for inspection.....same as if your car was to low, to loud, tint to darkfully sick neons etc etc
 
Yeh theyre illegal, and when they turn yellow they look like *poo*e. Also much lighter so fitment tolerances are usually poor.

If you want the look you have 3 options: paint bonnet black and place mesh over it then spray a light coat of metallic silver, buy sheets of 3m dinoc cf vinyl, or buy cf skinning kit where you epoxy a layer of cf cloth over the metal bonnet.
 
well i guess its decided :( sad face.. altho the idea of making a fake one is quiet interesting thanks for that one d3x. but in your guyzers opinion what do you think of a fake carbon hood? would that be alright or would it be a lame poser thing to do?

its illegal
it will go yellow (due to the mould release and crappy clear they usualy use on shit bonnets) you can get it rubbed back and recleared

i like 3m dinoc. my interior proves this. but bonnet...no. thats gay and it'll probably look shit.
 
Maybe 10 years ago a cf hood was radical but not nowadays. IMO exterior CF should be restricted to: mirrors, eyelids, diffusers, front lips, canards, roof, and sometimes spoiler/boot

off top of my head, thats the droid, or trial style bonnet
its very very nice

and that auction has been up for a while now on ebay, and hasnt gone :p
i think it started at about $600, then got listed about 8-9 times over the year :p

on the outside they don't look to bad my mate has used it on his integra boot roof and hood. Just make sure u get the proper stuff. Looks real good

awesome thanks for the heads up. now atleast i know what im looking for!!!! its everything ive ever wanted in a bonnet. whats your guyzers thoughts on that bonnet sprayed black? as apposed to being the same colour as the rest of the car?

ive been searching my ass off and cant seem to find any style of bonnet for sale like that :(
